BetterWidget or Better Widget? Brand name effect on SEO
-
I have a company that produces widgets. People generally search for "widget". I need to decide how to brand my company.
Stylistically, I like BetterWidget, but I worry about the effects on SEO. If people are commonly searching for "widget", and my page title contains "BetterWidget", but no other use of the term, that may have a negative effect.
1. Is Google able to parse through these joined words? (this is similar but distinct from the discussion on common compound words like ice cream)
2. Does capitalization of the second "word" in the joined word help signal to Google that these are two terms joined together?
3. On the flip side, is there a negative effect from not having a unique "brand". In other words, articles that are about my company Better Widget may seem to google just to be about better widgets in general.
Thanks

Hi!
Martin is correct in saying that it is likely that Google will be able to understand what your company does based on links and content outside of your brand's name. Also, I would suggest focusing your keyword targeting on actual content on the page rather than in your company's name. Like, a title tag on your homepage or page could read " Widgets for work | BetterWidget " (just an example). This would communicate both what your keyword research suggests is the term your users search for as well as your brand.
Also, I like BetterWidget the best as well.
Hope that is helpful!

Hey there, I wouldn't be concerned about this too much. Google is not a dummy software anymore and knows from all the articles, links and context about your company that it's actually a brand. Just go for what you like more. I personally like BetterWidget as it gives an impression of young and high-tech company. Just compare: Facebook is not Face Book, YouTube is not You Tube etc...

Gallery maintenance and the effect on SEO
Basically we get a lot of users uploading photos as part of their review, but many photos aren't moderated into our pages and therefore are never displayed. Things like selfies rather than photos of the product or just random google images that are completely unrelated to our products or services. Is there any benefit in cleaning up the gallery since some images we don't use are just sat there in admin?

when a page loads, would it be quicker if we had less content in the gallery? With our SEO hat on.
or does it not matter since it's not loading that content (photos) anyway?0 -
Back links with instant effect?!
I realise this is incredibly controversial! And I also realise I’ll get a ton of trolls pulling me to shreds but… I’m in need of running a short-term experiment, but to do the experiment I need to get a test site ranking high very quickly (not worried about if it gets penalised, it is only a short-term test).

The format for image SEO
Hi there. After looking at a few SEO videos relating to image SEO it seems important to ensure images are SEO'd just as well as pages. I however have a question. If the page is Meta titles the following: Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech And this particular page contains five images which are each variants of this product, how is it best to SEO them? Would you go with the: Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech Front Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech Back Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech Side and so on... Or would this result in keyword stuffing with Google's new over-optimisation rules. Would it be better to rename them so they are all individual? I am considering deleting the images, renaming them on the server as the SEO proof name and then re-uploading them so the Image caption = filename. Am I on the right track? E-Commerce SEO
Dear SeoMoz fans, I'm really glad to be a part of the community. Just have a quick question. I run a marketplace similar to eBay where users sell the products. I would like some suggestions on how to effectively proceed with SEO for an ecommerce marketplace of this type. Should I be proceed developing product review or product comparison landing pages and build links towards them as often suggested or should I consider alternative marketing methods? Looking forward to your replies.

Can someone recommend an excellent SEO who can perform a full site audit of my fairly large Wordpress site? The site receives about 14,000 visits per month but traffic is waining one month after a recent change. Need analysis of some funky stuff in my Webmaster tools and overall site review.
