Facebook Like my website or fan page??
-
Should I want people facebook liking my website or my fan page? Is there a way to link the two? Here is my dilemma...
People liking my website will obviously have an effect on rankings within bing and google possibly. BUT - People liking my fan page will allow me to engage with them in the future about givaways, sales and so on. I'm stuck, is there a way to link these? Or if not, which do you recommend?

What Adrian said. The Open Graph is "a way to link these." This question should be marked as "Answered."

If you associate your website with a FB app account, you can post updates via the FB Graph API that will appear on the news feeds of users who have 'liked' a page on your website. Read the 'Publishing' section on the Open Graph documentation: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/
This gives you both social SEO signals for your website AND engagement with readers via Facebook.

I've been there too. There is an upside to doing suggestions. I find it that it is sometimes better to work with other peoples' content because you have a fresh look on it.
I try to build a community of people who have already used the service. We email clients about the page and try to reel in only the most interested people. What one would really find out is what is the value of having people on facebook and what you can do for them when they are on your page. A part from providing support trying to give them a forum to connect, I have little to offer on facebook. You can say we try to buid loyalty.
Like button on the product pages of the site is what sends people back from facebook to register for my products.

I find both methods to work fantastically, but Svetoslav is right you should diversify the like button. I was running social media on someone else's site so I didn't have the option to play with any of the widgets on the retail site, but I was able to get fantastic conversion on Facebook pages by running the ads to the page and then engaging the audience through there. I easily added 5K-10K new followers per week depending on if I ran an ad to the page or not. Overall sales increased during that time by 30%. Now I work doing content SEO which is hard because I don't actually touch any of the content I mainly have to oversee and hope that people take my suggestions. : /

If you have a great way to engage facebook fans, again, go with promoting the facebook page, through your site.
I did the opposite. I decided to have each os my products have the "Like"buttom, sharing that particular URL to facebook walls. Where I had multiple pages - info page, application form, faq and a post registration (thank you) page, I implemented the code in a way that each time people click like, they share the info page. It has proven to be better on conversion (in my case). I also use the Recommend button. It looks a bit better on a B2C site.
My main motivation to do so I because I got what I was after - people visitng my site from facebook and registering for my products. I felt a good boost in registrations over the last 7 months.
My short answer is - Like button shares your website link on facebook. Just don't make all your pages share the homepage.
I hope that helps a bit :)!

Should I let 22-year-old website go or revamp it?
Hi, I’m trying to decide whether to renew annual hosting for my old website and hoping a wiser brain than mine in these matters might be able to advise me. The website was the home of a weekly website review column, e-newsletter, content writing tips and other web content/marketing related content so has lots of backlinks since 1997, though hasn't been updated for about 10 years. The domain email address is listed on some spam lists as I suspect it was harvested from the site by crawling spambots. I haven't bothered trying to de-list as don't use the address or website anymore. The site has never been used for PBN or sending spam (at least not by me). There's lots of good content in there, and some would still be relevant, but not sure if it's worth keeping for backlinks and for redirecting to my new website when it’s built. Plan to build a new WordPress website for my new writing as no longer in the content marketing business. It's a country-specific domain so can't really sell it as need to own the business name to own the domain name. I no longer use the business name either as plan to set up new brand for new website. But it might be useful to direct traffic to my new website domain once it's up and running if I cleaned up all the many broken links to expired websites in the databases of hundreds of website reviews. It's all on archive.org but I'm still very attached to the old site, even if it's no longer useful from a business point of view. Did a Moz check which showed: Domain Authority

20 Linking Domains
89 Discovered in the last 60 days
1 Lost in last 60 days
4 Inbound Links
1.9k Ranking Keywords
0 My web host stats show the site gets between 300 and 500 visits a month. Had about 138,200 visits since October last year. And about 653,200 hits. Is that amount of traffic worth the time and expense of pruning the site of hundreds of expired links and fixing up other glitches? It's very dated in design and layout and is written in .asp I could send you the URL in private message if you would like to look at the website first. Been agonising over this decision for months as budget is very tight but don’t want to lose the site if it might have future value. Would greatly appreciate advice from someone who's up on this stuff as I've been out of the game for a long time and the deadline to renew the site hosting is very soon. Thank you in advance for your time and help.0 -
Page optimised and SEO ranking
Hi SEO is new to myself and I'm still trying to get my head round it. My friend and myself run a DJ company in our spare time but we are desperately trying to rank higher to increase our visibility. we have worked hard on our page optimisation and scoring high 90's, we'd love to invest in someone to do it, but simply dont have that kinda cash at the moment. I'm aware that some pages need meta description and alt image text, which is what I'm now working on, but even other sites with lower percentage are ranking higher. is this due to recent changes and google not ranking our pages? Will our ranking improve over time and how long should it be before we see any changes.

Why is Google appending a different website's brand name to the end of SERP title?
I've recently been shown some SERP results where Google is appending a different website's brand name to the end of the SERP title. It's actually rewriting the brand's name to that of the other website. (This is obviously not ideal.) Why would this be? The other website doesn't even stock the same product, so there shouldn't be any confusion there. But even if it did, many websites stock the same products. Just confusing...

How to Merge Existing Google Local and Google Business pages?
Hey everyone, I'm getting a wee bit frustrated. I have looked at every blog post I can about merging Google Local and Google Business Pages and I can't figure it out. I already have a verified Google Local page here https://plus.google.com/107404063103285095864/about?gl=CA&hl=en-CA and a Google Business Page here https://plus.google.com/b/100116630212547145177/100116630212547145177/posts . Both are already verified. How do I merge these existing profiles which are already verified?

Should your company's name be in the title tag of your website?
First of all, I would like to provide some background information. Our company is small. We are just now getting into SEO research and have been improving over a couple months of research. We are somewhere in the 500,000's in the world rankings. From what I understand, the title tag provides a great amount of weight to whatever keywords you set up. The words in the title tag are supposed to represent keywords that you want to be high in the search engines for, correct? Well, in our title tag, we have the name of our company. To me, this is a waste of space. No one is going to go to Google and search for our company's name because we are not that widely known. Looking back at our search history for customers, there has not been a single search for the company name. What someone is telling me, is that when we put our link somewhere, having the name of our company in the title tag strengthens the "link juice" we get from those links. Is this correct, or is it worth trashing the company name for another keyword to optimize?
