Guest Posting Offer
-
Our company gets pitched on linking to other websites nearly constantly. Recently, we received an offer to guest post on several sites managed by the same person. These sites aren't really relevant to our website, so my instinct is that we should ignore the offer. However, I would really like more backlinks and maybe I shouldn't turn away this offer.

Hey there, I think some of the responses in this thread will give you what you need but just wanted to chip in.
Guest posting is a bit of a contentious topic at the moment, recently Google Reps like John Mueller have said that sites should nofollow ANY guest links (so that includes very reputable sites and relevant posts).
As Marjin says below - I think you're on the money when you talk about relevance. If we ignore Google for a moment - is it likely that users on those sites would click through to yours and convert? If no then it's quite likely this person is offering guest posting to a host of different sites and Google probably has a pretty good idea that the site is spammy. So you're less likely to get a ranking benefit from this and you're not getting direct benefit from the links.
If, on the other hand, there is a way for your site to be relevant to the sites then at the very least you could get users clicking through and converting, which is direct value anyway. If this site is vetting opportunities to make sure they are relevant to the audience it's more likely that they drive value for that audience and don't just write about anything, which means there's more chance of Google seeing the site and links as valuable.
By the sounds of things, this opportunity is in the first category so I'd be inclined to turn it down.
Hope that helps!

No need to do guest posts until you understand how to value links like the back of your hand. Otherwise you are likely to be taken advantage of. You can be assured that many people who are asking you have very little knowledge of what they're doing or if such links will help or hurt them or you. Study up, practice, investigate, use tools.

I don't think that's very bad. I mean all the big sites and company always get links from news sites and unrelated sites and that's fine. As long as the site isn't low quality, I think it's okay.

You gave the best answer yourself: "These sites aren't really relevant to our website" - That is SEO language for don't do it.

Relaunching a site that has had thousands of posts linking to the same 20 articles. How to properly setup internal linking?
I'm in the process of relaunching a music news site (www.prefixmag.com) that once did quite well in search (over a million monthly search visits in its prime). The site got crushed by Panda, etc. and we stopped updating it. I'm starting to do more research but one thing that I noticed was we have modules in the right rail (desktop) that are found on all of our article pages that point to the same posts. (Edit: Added attachment. The links in the right rail under Editor Picks, Features, News, Media, etc. are found on every page of the site). In other words, we have thousands of posts that all link to the same 20 or so articles. Should we not do this if we're not trying to emphasize these posts in Google? Assuming this is the case, what is the proper way to do internal linking? Do we simply setup a sitemap and link to it? I'm hoping to have the thousands of articles we've published over the years have a chance to rank in search again. Also, we have a number of posts that are thin in content should those pages not be submitted in the sitemap? Thanks in advance! 2KmX0

Does adding relevant keywords to social postings help with SEO?
I was doing some research on social postings and SEO and couldn't really find the answer to my question. Would adding in SEO keywords help with my site's relevancy or would it just help boost my site because of backlinking? For example if I were to add a new Facebook post "Check out these great new blue widgets " help more than "Check out these new products "? Thanks!

More guest blogging penalties coming?
Does anyone foresee any future guest blogging penalties coming from google if the guest blogs are high quality blogs? I'm wondering if a future google update is going to hit even more sites that have used guest blogging as guest blogging continues to grow. I like guest blogging to drive traffic to my site but am scared to used it for fear of future updates in the algorithm. Thanks mozzers!

Site Published Our Guest Post but Removed the Link Back
I recently developed a nice article for a career site and they agreed to publish it as a guest post. Once they published the article I noticed they had removed the link back to my site in the byline. What is a best way to approach this situation? Would you ask them to take down the article if they are unwilling to link back to your site?

I could use some help with Link Building Post Panda
I am new to Internet Marketing world and want to become a great SEO. My biggest challenge is How To of Back linking. Not the reason and theory behind back linking. But more the actual hands on Back linking strategy. I feel that a lot of the back linking information out there is so mixed.Rand did a White board Friday lesson on the new link building strategies. When searching for back linking strategies it is filled with all the old link building tactics. What I wanted to ask is all the experienced back link people is, Have you changed your back linking strategy. Or just parts of your strategies. It all seems very confusing for a newbie when it seems the industry it self is still uncertain. Any advice on where a newbie should be starting their new back linking strategy. And any good resources on learning to do the actual hands-on of the back linking. Thanks in advanced

Guest Blog Posting : Is that all it is made out to be?
Experts frequently mention that one of the best way to build the link is to guest blog with some authoritative blogs in your niche after Penguin, Panda and other animals invaded SEO landscape. At the same time everyone agrees that "Content is the king" and if you have unique and useful content, people would link to you without any extra efforts on your part. Do you see any contradiction in those statements? I spent my time, my resource, my genius writing up very good posts. As a matter of fact all my post are good (IMHO), but I can churn out only 2 or 3 masterpieces per month. Should I share my content willingly as a guest post to other websites who are not my local direct competitor of course, but nonetheless are in my niche, thus adding to their authority on the subject? I will get a link out of it. Would I get a significant traffic? I doubt that. At least from my limited experience. Or should I strengthen my own site striving to be such authority in my niche? But without strong external link profile Google shall frown upon me and my site. Personally I inclined more to save most of the content for my own blog. What do you gals and guys think?

Re april 5th post on over optimization - need clarification blogging
I mainly do content creation for clients .e.g. site and blog on word press - then link the blogs to the related static page. I have been just linking to the static page using keywords that match the title tag keywords. Is that correct?

Does getting reblogged on Tumblr offer any positive/powerful backlinks?
This would be under the assumption that our company blog was hosted on tumblr.
