Silo Structure Question
-
Hi guys I'm trying to implement silos on a new website. I'm confused.
SEO experts say you should first research all your keyphrases (done that) and then only create 1 page per keyphrase.
I can see this makes sense if you did e.g. Italian Cooking - then did sub posts like Norther Italian Cooking, Vegetarian Italian Cooking etc - because those sub posts also contain the main keyphrase 'Italian Cooking'.
Where I get confused, is they then have pages e.g. Pasta Dough. I can't quite see the benefit of having a sub post that is essentially about something (semantically) unrelated to the main page keyphrase we are trying to optimize on.
I could understand doing a post e.g. 'Pasta Dough in Italian Cooking'. That page would be related and I can then see how the links from that page would have relevance for Google. But just Pasta Dough?
In 1 siloing example I saw a main topic of Websites. Under that they had things like Website Design, Website Building, which make sense. Then they have 'Online Shop' as a sub-post. It's only related if you know it's related.
Am I missing the point here? Is the point NOT to necessarily create pages related to the exact keyphrase, but instead create pages with a view to creating relevant links on those subpages to the main page?
I hope someone understands the confusion here. I think my head is still stuck in mininets from 20 years ago
Any help would be very appreciated, many thanks.

@manm0untain
It is a really good question.Pasta dough is semantically related to Italian cooking, but it does not contain the word "Italian". When we think about Italian food, the first idea that comes to mind is pasta. Then we want to know the pasta dough recipe.
As long as this content is helpful and relevant to your users, Google will also like it. The content should not necessarily contain the exact keyword or phrase to be relevant. Remember Google's suggested searches.
You can start by writing the pasta dough recipe in general, then talk about a specific Italian Pasta dough recipe. Then compare it to recipes from other countries. Do you see the internal linking potential?
If you try to write only about Italian cooking, sooner or later you can run out of ideas or bore your readers.

Unsolved Different KD
I am using MOZ keyword explorer for quite some time. Yesterday I was checking KD for a keyword of my new tech-related website but it showed a different KD every time for the same keyword. The keyword is "NEW JERSEY IT SUPPORT", the first time it showed 29, and 2nd time it showed 33. Why is this happening?

Unsolved Getting keywords to rank on new landing pages
I've built new landing pages for a website, and have loaded them with researched keywords in the content, alt image attributes and metas etc - but, after a number of crawls, the keywords are currently being matched to other existing web pages on the website. Does anyone have any advice on 'unlatching' these keywords from these pages, and instead getting them to match with pages that have been optimised for them? Many thanks!

The Importance of Bold Keywords in SEO?
Hi all, Recently I came cross an RV lifestyle blog named RVing Trends. The website features high-quality contents about handy RV camping tips & guides, and in-depth RV product reviews. They seem to spend a lot of effort on the content quality. I've followed this website for a few months and can see they've been producing 3,000-5,000 word length contents regularly. One thing I notice is that they emphasize the main keyword as bold in almost the posts. You can check 1 sample here about RV mattress reviews. Just want to ask for your opinions about the efficiency of this technique and is the keyword density still important for blog content to rank well in Google. Thanks!

Absolute vs Relative URL Interlinking Observation & Question
So I've read a few articles about this here on SEOMOZ and other sites. I understand the benefit of relative url linking from a developer's point view. I've also read that using either internal linking methods doesn't really have any real SEO benefits or cons that would impact your rankings greatly. (Except with the slight chance of getting traffic and backlinks from a scraper site.) But I'm seeing examples where this may not be true. I did a search for 5 star hotels in Vegas in google. Some of the top results were Hotels.com and Expedia.com Priceline.com was on the second page. I used the search operator link: to Hotels.com, Expedia.com and Priceline.com vegas hotel pages respectively: Hotels.com: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbo=d&site=webhp&q=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.hotels.com%2Fde1504033-st5%2Ffive-star-hotels-las-vegas-nevada%2F&oq=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.hotels.com%2Fde1504033-st5%2Ffive-star-hotels-las-vegas-nevada%2F&gs_l=serp.3...3650.7043.0.7972.8.7.1.0.0.0.90.363.7.7.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1j2.4kALxt0jpxI Expedia.com: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbo=d&site=webhp&q=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.expedia.com%2F5Star-Las-Vegas-Hotels.s50-0-d178276.Travel-Guide-Filter-Hotels&oq=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.expedia.com%2F5Star-Las-Vegas-Hotels.s50-0-d178276.Travel-Guide-Filter-Hotels&gs_l=serp.3...1681.3746.0.4076.6.6.0.0.0.0.100.348.5j1.6.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1j2.KxqwbH-YFV0 Priceline: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbo=d&site=webhp&q=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.priceline.com%2F5-star-hotels-las-vegas-nevada-NV-filter-tk-s5-c291680-hl.hotel-reviews-hotel-guides&oq=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.priceline.com%2F5-star-hotels-las-vegas-nevada-NV-filter-tk-s5-c291680-hl.hotel-reviews-hotel-guides&gs_l=serp.3...11265.12321.0.12767.5.5.0.0.0.0.0.0..0.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.HYtfct4MS7M The results were that priceline had no backlinks internally or externally to their vegas page. Whereas their competitors did, most of which were from their own internal pages. Looking at priceline's linking structure and architecture, they use a relative url structure and sessions ids to link to various pages. Their competitors don't. Wouldn't you argue that this may be adversely affecting their rankings. I know other things are to be factored in if you dig deeper. But that seems to be a major difference. It just seems that their content management system or how their site is coded isn't really passing link juice.

Question About Keyword Difficulty Report
If I am trying to assess the difficulty of ranking for a longtail keyword phrase that is 3 or more words long, should I put that phrase in quotes when I enter into the Keyword Analysis Tool or not? For example, let's say I want to see how hard it would be to rank for the phrase "best educational resources for teachers". Should I enter into the keywords analysis tool as "best educational resources for teachers" or just as best educational resources for teachers? Which one would give me the most accurate difficulty assessment for that phrase?

Important link building question for me!
Hi, When building backlinks how important is the location of where the website resides? For example, if I was targeting a search term in Google UK, will link building from websites hosted on UK servers have a higher positive impact on rankings then building links from websites hosted on US servers? Lets say in the above UK hosted is better, what if you have 2 websites hosted in the UK but one with .com and one with .co.uk, I take it from a domain point of view the .co.uk will have a better impact on SERP's then the .com. Now looking at the above from a more wider scale lets say I have the following: A .co.uk website aimed at a search term in Google UK. Example: 1. 100 backlinks from websites hosted in the US with .com extension. 2. 100 backlinks from websites hosted in the UK with .co.uk extension. Is it a FACT that number 2 will 100% be more beneficial in UK rankings? Cheers

Google locations question for organic search...
If you set your Google location to "Dallas, TX" and you do a search for "web design dallas", my client shows up #4. If you change your google location to anywhere else in the US, he is #1. How can I be #1 in Dallas and the US? (My client is not really in Dallas but I didn't want to give away the city, their site, etc)
