Whats the best way to stop search results from being indexed?
-
I Have a Wordpress Site, and just realized that the search results are being indexed on Google creating duplicate content.
Whats the best way for me to stop these search result pages from being indexed without stopping the regulars and important pages and posts from being indexed as well?
**The typical search query looks like this: **
http://xxx.com/?s=Milnerton&search=search&srch_type
AND
this also includes results that are linked to the "view more" such as:
http://xxx.com/index.php?s=viewmoreYour help would be much appreciated.
regards
Stef

Thank you so much Sebastian
Will do.

Either get the Yoast SEO Plugin, which does a <meta name='robots' content='noindex,follow'/> on search pages automatically or if you want to code it for yourself something like:
'; } ?> in the header.php file.
Hope this helps.

What is the best way to deal with https?
Currently, the site I am working on is using HTTPS throughout the website. The non-HTTPS pages are redirected through a 301 redirect to the HTTPS- this happens for all pages. Is this the best strategy going forward? if not, what changes would you suggest?

Google is indexing my directories
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I was looking at all of Google's results for my site and I found dozens of results for directories such as: Index of /scouting/blog/wp-includes/js/swfupload/plugins Obviously I don't want those indexed. How do I prevent Google from indexing those? Also, it only seems to be doing it with Wordpress, not any of the directories on my main site. (We have a wordpress blog, which is only a portion of the site)

Instant Indexing
I've been working on a site for a while now, methodically building content and building trust and authority. Lately I've noticed that anything I publish there appears to be instantly indexed by Google, which surprises me. I haven't had this happen before so I'm curious. I'd be interested to hear the experience of others.

Profile pic and Google profile appearing in search results
Do a Google search for: opensiteexplorer . The 2nd (may vary) result is an seoMOZ blog post, "Brand New Open Site Explorer is Here (and Linkscape's Updated, too)". Google is displaying Rand's pic and google profile link in the search result. How? Can't find the Google profile link in the seoMOZ page source.

What's the best way to switch over to a new site with a different CMS?
Is it better to 301 or to closely duplicate each page URL when switching over to a new website from an established site with good ranking and a different CMS ( Drupal switching to Wordpress)?

What is the best way to change your sites folder structure?
Hi, Our site was originally created with a very flat folder structure - most of the pages are at the top level. Because we will adding more content I want to tidy up the structure first. I just wanted to check what the best way to go about this was. Is it best to: First configure all the new 301 redirects to point to the new pages, while leaving the actual links on our site pointing to the old pages. Then changing the links on the site after a few weeks. Configure the redirects and change the actual links on my website at the same time to point to the new locations. My thinking that if I go with option 1 route then I will give Google a chance to process all the redirects and change the locations in their index before I start pointing them to the new locations. But does it make any difference? What is the best wat to go about making this sort of change to minimize any loss in rankings, page rank etc? Thanks for the help.
