Do anyone have experience in this regard that they can add to this topic? Here is my situation, I have a group of 7 companies, represented on one website, now only one of them show on the sitelinks, the rest point to blog articles... so you can imagine it would be better to show companies on these sitelinks.

I know Google will only show sitelinks if the site is deemed authoritive and if it will help the user searching a keyword, but is there anyway to order or control which links appear in the sitelinks?

I know you can demote a sitelink in Webmasters, but is this not shooting yourself in the foot? If I demote a link will Google replace it with the next link it thinks is worthwhile and be doing this eventually show the links you want to appear in your sitelinks?

How does should one treat mobi sites which have a separate set of files to the main site - with regards to the sitemap? Doe we tell Google about them?

Thanx all, once this content is deleted, what would I show on my sitemap.xml?

This domain has become a landing page and now redirects to two other location businesses.

eg. www.business.co.za  used to be the main site, but now they have split to www.business1.co.za and www.business2.co.za

Do I now add a simplified site map showing only these two links? Or do I show the old sitemap with the two new links to the new domains?

A quick question, after you have setup your 301 re-directs in .htaccess - is it necessary to keep your content in the original domains directory?

My thinking is that requests do get as far as referencing the directory, thus it should be safe to delete all the files on the old domain?

The logic of the third domain to to ensure customer awareness (does the customer know which store they buying from) and also to simplify payment gateways/banking accounts.

I hear you though, I guess it's something we've got to do, if it doesn't work we'll know the next suggested route!

Thanx, you are correct, two questions effectively.

I did propose the subdomain route, as both all three of these domains are in the same country. I just could not argue with conviction that a simple landing page diverting traffic to two different domains carries less SEO weight. Since there is less 'meat' to the site in terms of keywords and pages. Is this correct? What scenario would you punt or see as the ultimate route?

I guess the 301 is a case of, if you must, do it, but stick to the 301 rules and guidelines, over time you should resume your usual rankings.

I am familiar with the 301 redirect, but never actually got my hands dirty in this regard. I have a client who owns two stores in two different regions, but under the same brand name.

They currently have two websites, for each store, the domain name dictating the region they are in.

What they want to do now is create a 3rd domain, have it serve as a landing page to re-direct traffic to the existing regional domains.

The question is, is this landing and re-directing good practice? Remember that each store has an online shopping cart, so running one domain servicing two stores/regions is not ideal.

The last question is, they want to convert the existing/longest standing domain name into the landing page, and do a 301 re-direct to a brand new domain name....

I'd love to hear your comments and views on this one.
