From what I understand, login boxes usually wait to be logged in to activate HTTPS. And as for social media accounts, aren't the social media sharing and links sent to the social network? Like Twitter usually goes to API of twitter's site, which is usually HTTPS.

RE: Can copyright links to your site have a negative impact on your SEO?
"nofollow" them. This done in a large scale can really affect your rankings. Search WPMU.org

RE: Will changing content managment systems affect rankings?
I think you mean 301 redirects. The best way to not lose any rankings at all is making sure each URL has a 301 redirect to the new URL. Otherwise, all your links will just return an error.
Usually this is the best way to ensure link juice is being passed to your new URLs. It is tedious but needs to be done.

RE: Is it normal to initially rank low in the SERPs, then over time gain rank?
Yes, you will gradually start ranking better assuming you continue to optimize. Unless you are one of the authority sites in your space, it will take time to rank.

RE: Multiple domains on the same hosting
This is not as bad as interlinking but it is still a bad idea. You can check this for example:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-wpmuorg-recovered-from-the-penguin-update
It was similar to the footer links and the fact the sites are all on the same host could give it even more higher possibility to be affected.

RE: Anyone Else Frustrated with the new Keyword Planner
I was doing keyword research earlier today and now see the replaced landing page. This tool is garbage for SEO and more tailored for SEM.
The search volume for some terms are remarkably inaccurate. I really hope they start fine tuning this tool because it is definitely that great.

RE: URL Help
Yes, this would be different URLs. As Rishi mentioned if it returns a 200 status it is a different URL.
It may be worth looking at those values and adding canonical tags or making sure your URLs are always filling in properly. i.e. value1 is always before value2.
-
RE: Best directory or subdomain for a blog
Put it as a subfolder, like www.thesite.com/blog. That is if you want to build domain authority, subdomains are looked as different entities majority of the time.
-
RE: Multiple domains on the same hosting
External link building to each specific site will not harm you. Just make sure you are not doing anything shady. It is always best to play it safe because they are your clients.
You can nofollow it by using a similar tag to this:
[ anchor text](exampleurl.com)

RE: Are press releases still useful?
I've considered and researched this as well.
With social media blooming and bloggers left and right, PR is less effective as it was back then, when journalist look for content to publish.
I think it is safe to say and majority will say that press releases depend on what you are trying to accomplish and what you are releasing to the press.
Pros:
Link from PRweb
Immediate exposure to search engines and journalist
More authority, paying for a service like PRweb shows you have the money or are serious.
Cons:
Could be expensive
Not that effective if content is not intriguing and informative
Could result in no views or no links from other sources other than PRweb.
This was just some general things I was able to come up with off the top of my head. I'm sure others can think of other pros and cons.
Bottom line if the content is not that extravagant, use that content to guest blog or use it on an article on your own site. If it is truely worthy, you will get links automatically anyway..

RE: How do you link a specific keyword to a landing page
I thought Roger was a male.
Keywords can be tied to a URL by either if it ranks or is the best matching URL for that keyword.

RE: Buying Facebook Likes...
Don't do it to yourself. Stay away from these type of I'll sell you links.
These don't help and could be hurtful in the long run if anything.
Those likes that you get are spam likes and the accounts are not real users, so it does not benefit you in any way. I've read some stories where accounts were closed due to association.
STAY AWAY! Don't look for these type of easy way out, that is what these spammers thrives on.
-
RE: Multiple domains on the same hosting
If these sites are all interlinking, it is best to remove those links. Google will most likely know and all sites will be penalized. Rectifying the problem will be a pain.
Now if that 80 sites are not interlinking and all on the same IP or same 'host', it won't matter.
The main problem is the interlinking of all the sites, which Google can easily identify.

RE: First 500 Twitter Followers....
A lot of people misinterpret social media. You end up with more spam than anything else using the above services.
Some are legitimate but majority are just spam. The main reason behind this is because the insights and stats from your social media accounts will be inaccurate and hinders your future goals and tasks.
Lets say I get 10000 followers and 100 of those are actual followers that liked my page from a post or my website. If I am only getting 25 followers to click my links on Twitter, 25/10000 seems like crap. But 25/100 is pretty good. We are given these numbers, but using places like Twiends and buying followers are just not helpful and ruins your stats and analytics.

RE: Mozbar showing 0 links for pages in the main nav.
Restart your browser, maybe that will work. It could be viewing links from previous site you were viewing.
Also it could be possible that OSE hasn't crawled your page yet. It is updated monthly.

RE: Facebook Like button on website: which "URL to Like"? Website or Facebook Page?
The Like Box will work great. At the end of the day you are looking for likes for your page to build relationships with users. Likes on a URL won't necessarily boost rankings but does help give exposure.
My opinion is use tools like the Like Box for the main page or somewhere static while having the "like button" for dynamic URLs to target more unique URLs.

RE: Content Organization Advice with Big Commerce
I would personally keep the blog on another domain just for ease and future benefits. You can always use the blog to post non-related items that are in your e-commerce as well as developing a following.
Using WP on another domain can create a better experience rather a new page within bigcommerce. The better experience the less users bounce off the page. You can also use it as a free advertising platform if the site develops well. I also believe influencers will more likely point their readers to a blog rather than an e-commerce site with a blog.

RE: Rebranding: How Can We Continue to Be Found by Searching the Old Name?
301 redirects usually would suffice. Also I know Bing WMT has moving site function, which can help as well. And for Google WMT, I think you can make the same changes as well in there.
-
RE: Ranking Change
No, but you can get an idea of why it increased. You can check your on page SEO, by using the tool. Or using OSE to see how the linking profile is.
You can also for future references use Google Alerts, to see if anyone is referring to you, which can find out if you are getting links to your site.
But if you are doing something, then its a good sign things are paying off.

RE: Twitter and SEO
It could play a little bit of a factor but not much.
The only reason people say social media is considered in SEO, is because for something to be social..it must have some sort of buzz. If someone just posts messages and no one interacts, thats not really social media. That is talking to a wall.
So those tweets might generate responses and those responses can generate into leads, but if they don't then it doesn't matter.
-
RE: Identifying a 301-redirect problem?
Yes, this means either they have inbound links referring to the http://website.com and http://www.website.com.
This happens all the time especially if you don't have a redirect in place.
I suggest going into your WMT and choosing preferred http://www.website.com or whichever has the most links. Then you want to make sure your .htaccess redirects to your preferred URL.
-
RE: Can someone explain what is exactly a vanity url and how to make it work?
A vanity URL is nothing extravagant. It is simply a URL that looks more appealing for marketing and user appeal. In your example, a vanity URL could simply be created by the website owner that wants to track the effectiveness of a TV campaign. The vanity URL can be a landing page or it can redirect to a "uglier" URL.
Vanity URL is more of a purpose based tactic and nothing special. You can make http://domain.com/vanity-name/ your URL and consider it a "vanity URL" or it can even be http://domain.com/a-witty-punchline-that-is-memorable/
To track it, just simply use an Analytics tool like Google Analytics or use a redirect.

RE: Does SEOmoz give a way to know what link on what page produces the 404 errors that SEOmoz is telling me I have??
Yes.
Click 'Crawl Diagnostics'
Click 'Errors'
Click '4XX (Client Errors)'
Scroll down and there are the links.

RE: Keyword - Competition between competitors
Hi Travis,
SEOmoz can be extremely helpful when collaborating with other tools as well, one thing I find extremely useful is Open Site Explorer.
You may use OSE to track where backlinks are coming from for your competitor and perhaps those linking to your competitor will have interest in what you have to offer, because after all you are competitors with similar traits in business.
That is just one of the many things SEOmoz tools can do for you.

RE: Recommendations. Need Hosting Company
Hosting services are really hard to choose. Everyone will have their own experiences.
In my experiences, I usually look at webhostingtalk.com because they have a large amount of webmasters that post reviews of certain companies.
Find a couple of hosting companies that fit your budget.
Then Google them for reviews or search at webhostingtalk.com
Always worked for me

RE: Money Deducted twice
It can happen by accident. If it was posted and not pending I would ask SEOmoz to review it.
You can contact them by going to this page:

RE: Do twitter profile links in bio pass juice?
No, its a redirect from t.co. The actual link is to: http://t.co/YOURSITE
-
RE: Would sharing the same IP address with competitors in the same market hurt SEO?
No. IP address does not affect SEO.
This would ruin the shared hosting plans since shared hosts usually have hundreds of sites under one IP/server.
-
RE: Moving site between hosts over short time scale
From my experience if there is little downtime there is little to no effect at all.
Assuming everything stays the same and nothing is changed except host.
-
RE: Duplicate Page Content
Yes that works. You can also redirect all inks to those sites to www.breeze-air.com or whichever variation you want.
You can use this generator that might help you.
-
RE: How can I track relevant websites my visitors are viewing?
Theres no easy and cheap way to find out what your visitors are viewing on other sites.
Some methods could be enabling Age and Interests categories in Google Analytics, which can show you topical categories some of your visitors tend to follow.
Another would be to use social listening and social analytic tools that can view what type of visitors follow you or like your brand. That may paint a good picture of what your followers post and like.
-
RE: Beginner - needs to better understand rel=canonical. What is the best resource?
This will be entirely up to you. If you believe you need it or not.
Usually it is for cases when you have multiple pages within a section/category. For example you have shoppingsite.com/widgets. There will be shoppingsite.com/widgets/search&page2. You want to put the canonical tag on page2 to point to widgets URL.
-
RE: Can I combine SEOmoz Campaigns.
So you have multiple campaigns under your account. If you want to combine them, I am not sure this is doable just as the front end user. If you want this, I believe SEOmoz has the power to do so. You can maybe contact them to request them to combine them because from what I see it can't be done by the user.
-
RE: Facebook.com/I.php
I believe that is just part of the referring domain link. The i.php usually has trailer words/letters like i.php?sometexthere, which could refer to an image, or a video you may have posted on Facebook, or other users have posted.
Does any video or images grab photos from your domain, if so, this could be the case.
-
RE: Site Redesign - Regaining Rankings
Not a redesign, pretty much a huge transition. As EGOL mentioned, you will need redirects to pass on the link juice for EVERY SINGLE PAGE.
And the power of each individual page will change as well. Example your link juice was 100 and spread to 50 pages. Your new site will have 100 juice and spread to 100 pages.
-
RE: Blog Post Not Picked up by OSE
Hi David,
OSE usually takes a few updates to include more recent links. Do not worry about the link not showing up in OSE, it doesn't mean you are not being considered by Google. OSE is just an FYI tool, and won't always be able to gather exactly all links.
-
RE: Google Analytics - Tracking a Goal from 1 Domain to Another
I don't believe this is possible.
One way I suggest is just exporting the data into CSV from site A & B and then compare the two in Excel. You are just looking for the data anyway, but of course it would be nice if they had the function.
-
RE: Site Redesign - Regaining Rankings
Your rankings will not largely be affected by simply redesigning a site.
Things you have to consider:
-Content: Are you optimizing every page with relevant and search engine friendly content.
-Usability: Increasing user experience less bounce/exit.
-Site speed: Is your page loading quick enough, are there pages that hang?
Usually a good redesign doesn't result in a dramatic increase in your rankings..perhaps a small-med change.
-
RE: canonical URL tag
That means you have two canonical tags in your code.
Canonical tags basically means which link is the primary link. This prevents Google from affecting your rankings due to duplicate pages.
I.E.
Page 1 = Original Link
Page 2 = Similar to Page 1 - Could be mistaken as duplicate page
You put a Canonical tag for Page 2 and reference Page 1 as the original.
For Google's interpretation: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html

RE: Ecommerce Revenue Data is not Similar to Admin Panel Sales Data
This can happen if your landing page is being viewed more than once. In the event a user goes to http://example.com/ordercomplete?id=5555 , which was completed for $200 is visited twice, it would show $400 in eCommerce metrics in Analytics.
This is assuming your discrepancies are that Analytics is reporting more than your admin. One solution would be preventing users from getting to that page again, whether it is making a redirect to a different URL or a click through to view confirmation type page. There are many solutions, its dependent on your web developer or CMS you are using.

RE: Duplicate Content of Reseller Product?
You should always want to get any advantage on SEO. So I'd suggest changing up the content just a bit unless you don't have the manpower to do all of them.
Negative would being flagged as spam for duplicate content, however is sometimes rare for shorter descriptions.
Larger bulks of content could be more likely to be flagged, so I'd keep that in mind.

RE: How can I submit my sitemap file to SEOmoz? (I mean the same file I send to google and bing, not the sitemap page)
Hi Fernando,
I don't believe SEOmoz has any feature that requires you to submit a sitemap. It is not a search engine, and SEOmoz's Roger bot just crawls your site and pulls all the needed information(no tracking cookie, how awesome!).
Once you submitted your domain, full crawls just takes a few days and you will have all the data you need.
-
RE: Changing the author of a post
Won't matter from what I know. Unless the links are going to the author's list of posts(don't forget to redirect to the merged author), it won't really matter.
Changing the author won't give any real affect unless the author is really that authoritative in your niche(very unlikely).
-
RE: Duplicate content on report
You can use the canonical tag if you are having too many duplicate URLs.
As for the crawl, you shouldn't look at it as if you don't do this or that, your site will not be ranking well. These things do happen and every site will have issues like that. No one has a perfect 5k page site without some sort of error. The crawl is giving you suggestions and you should choose which ones are more detriment to your rankings.
Smaller errors and things like duplicate pages are normal within a website, and the bottom line is sometimes you have no choice as it might mess with your site's usability.
-
RE: Site Explorer - No Data Available for this URL
Is your site new? OSE updates once a month and can take some time for it to be indexed.
-
RE: Changing the author of a post
Meaning the link to the Author's page where ALL of his articles are available for view. I don't remember what the wordpress link was but basically something like www.wordpress.com/authors_name/
Where it shows all the author's posts, just redirect www.wordpress.com/authors_name/ to www.wordpress.com/new_authors_name/
-
RE: Duplicate content on report
You can noindex them but in my opinion and experience small things like that are not worth the trouble. I suggest moving on and working on something that is more impactful to the site. Messing around with something that has little consequence is not worth it...especially if you might ruin something if you don't know what you are doing.
-
RE: Why would my site return an error when using Open Site Explorer to crawl it?
The site is yet to be crawled by OSE. It is updated every month or so.
Please check the calendar for more details on next update.

RE: High Bounce Rate on this Specific Page
That is great that you are already getting great traffic from those search terms.
My suggestion which might not be a option for you is to chance the design a bit. The site looks a bit cluttered to view exactly what is clickable.
I scrolled to the button of your article and it does show additional/related information which should help decrease bounce rates.
An easy accessible and viewable page can always help conversion and helps keeping eyes on the page/site.
Another thing you can do is check other keywords that are having less bounce rates and maybe see how those keywords correlate with your higher bounce rates. I am no expert in your niche so you will have to identify why and which keywords are having low or high bounce rates.
