Google Places Question

When you are optimizing Google places campaigns what do you find to be a better way to appear for more searches?
No, all customers come to the business location
or
Yes, this business serves customers at their locations
(45 mile radius)
**? **

Hi Kynduvme, Definitely follow the link Bede Fahey has provided. This was a major policy change that I would recommend you take note of and comply with in signaling to Google the correct business model. By being accurate in your settings, you will hopefully avoid future penalties of your listing.

I agree with imageworks...
Your service area settings on your places page should reflect how the business actually interacts with customers. Prior to something like 18 months ago, hiding your location seemed to negatively impact listings. These days, my experience is that there is little, if any, penalty to doing this.
That said, even if there is a slight penalty to hiding the location, I'd do it anyway. As recently as February and March of 2012, Google seemed to be enforcing this particular guideline by actually calling some businesses and asking. A minor penalty is better than having your listing vanish along with all traffic.
Miriam Ellis wrote a post about this in March: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-you-may-need-to-hide-your-google-places-address-asap
Hope this helps!

Would you recommend Yext or Whitespark for UK customers I have never heard of them, personally.
-
As far as I'm aware it doesn't make any difference when it comes to appearing more frequently for local based searches - we've picked one or the other with dozens of clients and seen no noticeable difference.
Just pick whichever one is most applicable to the business you're creating the page for.
-
I have never heard of Yext. I will see what that is.
-
just do whatever it is the business does. Then use Yext or Whitespark & localeze to get your citation game tight. Go to yext right now and use there free citation grader tool. You will not regret it!

Google+ SERP Visibility For Non Branded Keywords
Hi, I've noticed that a competitors Google+ box is appearing on the right hand side of the Google UK SERPs for a non-branded keyword (open air balustrade). Please see attached image. I've always thought that the Google+ box would only be displayed in the SERPS for branded keywords. How is this Google+ box appearing for non-branded keywords? How can we improve our chances of our Google+ box being shown instead? Many thanks in advance, Lee. vDm914D

Google Authorship
Hey Guys, For about a few days now, my google authorship photo no longer appears in search results. Also, I am unable to access my google places page, as every time I try I get an error from google (error #500). The places page still works, but I cannot log in as an administrator. I have no idea why this is happening, as the rich snippets tool indicates that everything is fine and dandy. I have also made no changes to the structure of the site. Can someone please explain why I am encountering these problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Duplicate Content Question
I have a question about duplicate content. We have our mission statement on our home page, a few paragraphs. When I searched Copyscape the only pages that came back were sites like Google Plus, Manta, Linkedin, AngieLists ect. All of them have the same exact copy. Would this be something that is hurting us for duplicate content??

It is our mission statement so we kind of want to be the same across those sites. Any input would be great. Thanks, Scott0 -
Trying to de-mystify Google Places, Google Local & Google Plus
There is a lot of online 'noise' regarding the changes / merging and making the best out of Googles' Places / Local & Google Plus. Any tips, ideas, experiences or just plain revelations regarding all or any of the above services and how they will work & come together in the future?

How to troubleshoot google authorship?
Before anyone makes the suggestion, I have already read many of the articles online how to create authorship. I believe I have gone through every step correctly. Google plus is properly connected to my blog, name is same on blog as it is in google plus profile. It even appears that the rich snippets tool is reading my mark up appropriately. It's been about a month and I'm not seeing my image with my blog posts. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to trouble shoot this? My image shows for my google plus page, just not my blog posts. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. Regards, Dino

How to control Artist Info sidebar on Google SERP?
Google has added an information sidebar to its SERPs for public figures, including artists of all stripes. Search for "Coldplay" and you'll see what I mean. I'm wondering where Google pulls this information from, and how to keep it complete and up to date. The sidebar includes basic information, including Birthday, Education, Awards and Works (albums / books etc.). In representing an artist, this is now the first encapsulated information presented to user searching for my artist, and I want to make sure it's accurate. Any insight on how to edit this info would be truly appreciated.

Google Places Pending for months..
We are a franchise with over 80 locations. We have bulk uploaded all our places pages and all but 15 of them have been approved...this was over 2 months ago!!! Any idea why the final 15 will not stop "Pending Review"?? Google has been no help!(of course) It seems the information is correct across Yelp! CitySearch, and Yahoo Local... Any ideas?
