Unnatural Link Profile
-
Hi All,
We are about to take on a new client whose site has been penalised for having a very unnatural link profile. They have over 1k links, which have 5 differing anchor texts, though the majority leans towards one particular phrase.
Their previous SEO company had done this for them and the strategy worked, keeping them in the top 3 for most phrases, until Penguin. Now they reside in the 70-100 ranks.
My initial though is we need to get rid of a lot of these links, however its going to be labour intensive and as we all know, labour is expensive.
The website is nicely designed and has lots of great unique content. Its just the link profile letting it down.
My question is;
If this were your client, what would you recommend? A link removal program which could take a long time and be very expensive or would you recommend that they start again and build a new site, also expensive and time consuming.
or would you suggest something different?
If anyone knows of any Link removal people who have done a good job in the past I'd love to get some contact details.
Thanks
Aran

If its 1K, LinkDelete can probably do it for about $400-$500.
But the main problem is that the links aren't guaranteed to be removed. Its based on cooperation of those webmasters, which usually are not helpful.
Another big problem is that this is a gamble.
1- You don't know if the links can be removed (uncooperative webmasters)
2- Even if you remove a good portion of links, it doesn't GUARANTEE an accepted reconsideration from Google.

Thanks William.
The client will not be happy to start over again, but I cannot see them being happy to spend money deleting links which they paid the last guys to implement!
you know what clients are like!!
Its a tough call! I'll check out the services you mentioned, thanks.

Hi Aran,
Some link removal services are rmoov and linkdelete. Google those to find exact site.
As for using a new domain, it is brought up a lot. It really varies for what your client's goals are and what you hope to achieve. The site was previously ranking at 3 but that was with spammy links. Now without those links would they still rank? Probably not.
If the site has SOME good links I'd suggest keeping the domain and removing those 1k links as it is not THAT bad if they are on same domains. But getting them removed is a hard task.
If the site has no good links and the domain isn't anything special like an EMD, I'd say just dump it. This is assuming the domain is not anything important like brand name.
You will have to consult with your client and see what they want and what their budget is. Removing links is hella annoying. LinkDelete does a lot of it for you and customer service is good overall.

How do I deal with Negative SEO (Spammy Links)?
For the past 12 months, our website has been hit by spammy links with annoying anchor text. We suspected one of our competitor are deploying negative SEO on us. The image is an example of the sites and anchor text we have been spammed with. The frequency is about 1 - 2 spammy links a day. I have a few questions from here onwards: Does those links affect our SEO? (Most are mainly nofollow) Other than disavow, what other stuff can I do? How will google and other search engines see this incident? TcmFsti

How should I use the 2nd link if a site allows 2 in the body of a guest post?
I've been doing some guest posting, and some sites allow one link, others allow more. I'm worried I might be getting too many guest posts with multiple links. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following: 1. If there are 50+ guest posts going to my website (posted over the span of several months), each with 2 links pointing back only to my site is that too much of a pattern? How would you use the 2nd link in a guest post if not to link to your own site? 2. Does linking to .edu or .gov in the guest post make the post more valuable in terms of SEO? Some people recommend using the 2nd link to do this. Thanks!

Are Links from blogs with person using keyword anchor text a Penguin 2.0 issue?
Hello, I am continuing a complete clean up of a clients link profile and would like to know if Penguin is against links from blogs with the user including keywords as anchor text? So far I have been attempting to get them removed before I go for a disavow. An example would be the work clothing comment at the bottom of: http://www.fashionstyleyou.co.uk/beat-the-caffeine-rush.html/comment-page-1 I am also questioning if we should keep any link directories, so far I have been ruthless, but worry I will be losing a hell of a lot of links. For example I have kept the following: http://www.business-directory-uk.co.uk//clothing.htm Your comments are welcomed!

Are back links from audio sites any good?
In light of G's view of links from directories and other sources I have heard that links for audio sites like soundcloud.com can be beneficial. Has anyone had any positive experiences building likes from sources like this?

Technorati links. good? or bad?
Hi all After an unnatural link warning I am about to do my third reconsideration request after having my previous two turned down. I have manually removed hundreds of spammy links (thousands if you include sitewide) and used the disavow tool on hundreds more where I could not get them manually removed. The backlinks I have remaining now all seem to be genuine. There are quite a few backlinks from technorati, I thought these were ligitimet links but am now thinking should I remove/disavow them. Does anybody have any opinions?

How Would You Go About Building a Private Link Network?
Assuming you need to build a private link network from scratch, how would you go about doing it? I am not looking for some shady tactic, but rather something that would be white hat, yet will help in our SEO efforts. Thanks in advance.
