Generic Anchor Vs Branded Anchor?
-
Hi,
I have always been very careful when building links, making sure that I use lots of variations relevant to my site in the anchor text, so keep the ratio diluted. However, in recent weeks I have stumbled on some SEO's focussing wholly around branded anchor terms for future link building, I feel that a branded focussed link profile looks more natural.
I'm interested to know what the rest of Moz community think about this?
Thanks

Yes, there has been a lot of confusion regarding what types of keywords are targeting. If you are targeting only targeted keywords, it is like playing Russian roulette. Your website might be enjoying top position until you are caught by Google Penguin update. Probably this is the reason why you might be still seeing low quality sites with questionable links ranking tops.
_The ideal anchor text policy should be the right mix of branded keywords, targeted keywords and natural texts. But as you are playing it safe, you cannot expect that you will see dramatic improvement in the rankings anytime soon. _

Well I think you should focus less on making it seem "more natural", and actually allow it to be natural. Once you do that, there's no mixing and measuring anchor text as if you're a chemist. No worrying about ratios to dilute and all that nonsense.
But that's just me.

Hi
I think you're doing a good job using a lot of relevant variations in you anchors including branded anchors.
It depends of the content you're linking to use brand or keyword anchor.
I hope this can help you.

Manual Links Vs. Smart Links
Hey Everybody, Is there any downside to the smart link plugins that I see all over wordpress? Basically in short I enter a keyword and where I want that link to go (primarily internal) and set the parameters of repetition etc and it automatically adds the link to that. Now other than the obvious situation where it might put a link in an awkward place, is there anything wrong with this sort of software? Part of me things that this sort of software would not be liked by Google, and that it isn't really getting counted as a true link, but i wanted to see if there were other thoughts or experience with this.

Link value from high authority domains vs low authority domains. How big is the difference?
Hi Guys. Could you send me in the direction of some quality information on link value. i.e) How much 'link juice' do you get from high authority domains vs low authority domains. Also, I understand the Moz value for DA is logarithmic, not linear. Does this also mean that a link from a site with a really high DA would be exponentially higher value than a site with a low DA. You know....like orders of magnitude better? Cheers in advance, I love you guys 😉 Isaac.

Ask a QuestionBacklink Anchor Text Profile
I'm looking to clean up my back link profile as we have a Google penalty for unnatural linking. Any pointers on what I should be looking for in terms of what makes a link bad? We have a massive percentage of links under the anchor text of "workwear" and this is the keyword we have the penalty for. Is it better to get the links removed or the anchor text changed? Thanks

What is an example of good anchor text?
Hi, I'm sorry to ask yet another question but the advice I get here is always so accurate and friendly that it's almost addictive. After Penguin I'm constantly thinking about what looks natural to Google. With regards to link building I can't really envisage any situations where natural anchor text would be anything other than either the name of our company or 'click here'. The only exception to this I would have thought would be if a customer was referring to a particular product on our site. Even in this situation I would have thought they'd have said 'I bought my cheap cartridges at Refresh Cartridges' with the company name still being used as the anchor rather than 'cheap cartridges'. I think if we're stripping it down to what works best from a human rather than search engine perspective then using 'cheap cartridges' rather than the company name would be just a little odd. Therefore my question is whether, when link building, I should just use my company name for all anchor text rather than trying to artificially mix it up to make it look ‘natural’. While I could vary the anchor text by saying 'cheap this', 'high quality that' and playing around with the text, almost certainly when used in context with whatever I am writing this would look unnatural no matter how many combinations I used. Is this correct or would my overuse of the company name make what should be a natural looking linking strategy look unnatural and harm results by not conveying the potential content of the page by using targeted anchor text. Thanks for your help. Chris

"gimme links" = easy to fill out profile/personal reputation links that offer a do-follow anchor text flexible link
I'm doing some SEO for small niche service sites...and aside from niche directories and some light article marketing and local search directories (yelp, etc) there really isn't a budget for content generation. I really only have a budget for profile/submission links. What are some sites where you can quite easily fill out a personal profile with an anchor text variable link that may not be THAT juicy but will stick (i.e. not a spam/fake profile type of link, but something like Linkedin). I'll start with giving away 1 www.istockphoto.com Any others that aren't obvious?

Anchor text internal links
Hello, I read about a practice (also suggested by EasyWP SEO plugin) whereby I should place on my current page (call it page A) an internal link to another page (call it page B) using as anchor text the keywords I want page A to rank for. I dont really understand this and it is a cause of great confusion in my head... Can someone explain this to me and why this would be good practice? I would have thought that having as anchor text to page B a keyword I want page A to rank well for would steal juice from page A and give it to page B? Or am I missing something else? Thanks !

I have been under the understanding that it is best to vary your anchor text.
I have been working on a keyword term "boat covers" - however a link from the manufacturer site with the anchor text something like "Company Name Boat Covers" would be just a good or better. Is this correct? Thanks, Brook
