Is it possible to set a Goal conversion tracking from a subdomain to a root domain?
-
Hi Mozzers,
Here is an issue I am going through:
- I have a root domain(www.example.com) that is the core website where you are able to schedule a service
- I have a subdomain (sub.example.om) that is part of content strategy offering free tips and follows a different branding strategy.
- There are internal links from sub to root domain
- I have a GA subdomain tracking code installed on every page for both domains
I would love to set goal tracking on GA for visitors coming to my subdomain, then going to root domain and then schedule a sevices? Is this possible? If it is, can someone show me a How To because I tried it anddidn't work?
Thanks mozzers!

You can set up the goals in the subdomains profiles if you want to view goals there. That's entirely up to you. Each profile is its own thing. When I say "filter", I mean write "example.com" into the search box there, and search by it. You can also click "advanced" next to the search box, and make the search more granular if needbe.

Hi John,
One thing I am confused about. Should I have the goals set in the subdomain profile? domain or the combined profile? I would think this should be on the combined profile, right?
Also when you say "filter by example.com", you can only do that by adding a secondary dimension "landing Page URL path" right or you meant something else?
thanks John!

So... if you have these set up as separate profiles, and have a profile that's just for the www.example.com subdomain, and have set up the scehdule a service action as a goal, you should be able to see this in your conversion paths report. Go to Conversions > Multi-Channel Funnels > Top Conversion Paths. Select "Source/Medium Path" as the Primary Dimension. Now, if you filter by "example.com", this should show conversions that involve referrals from your subdomains (that aren't a part of that GA profile). If you have many goals and only are interested in the schedule a service goal, then select only that goal at the top.
As is the case many times in Google Analytics, there's more than one way to skin a cat, but hopefully this works for you.

Custom funnel tracking - Google analytics - premium or normal
If I have funnel with more options on same step. E.g. PDP (product detail page) --> "Sign in page A" or "Sign in page B" (customer can choose) --> "Thank you page" How can I track both options in same funnel? Because if I set funnel in analytics like: 1. step: PDP, 2. step: Sign in page A and step 3: Thank you page -->

SEO and Conversions from a C-Level perspective
Hi guys! Do you have any suggestion about articles about how to work with conversions and SEO from a C-level perspective? I know it is very open question, but there might be articles like (https://mza.seotoolninja.com/ugc/how-can-pr-seo-and-ceo-people-work-together-for-link-building) that are great and written on this subject. Could you please share if you have any examples? I'm thinking for these perspectives: What knowledge and insight does a management team need to take control and drive the SEO and CRO related work (from a executive level)? How do the management team connect business strategy and goals with the SEO and CRO area? Have a great day!

Email Campaign Tracking within Domain & Subdomains
What is the best process to track conversions/visits in Google Analytics when running an email campaign that links to both a sub-domain and then the main domain? To elaborate further, we have an email marketing campaign that directs users to a subdomain (e.g. promos.website.com) within the subdomain we include our products. Once a user clicks on the promos, they are taken to our main website (e.g website.product1.com). What is the best process to track conversions from this email campaign that leads users to the sub-domain first, then to the main site (where the conversions take place)? We have URL tagging in the Email Campaign - but not able to see the true conversions show up in Analytics on the main site. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Conversion Rate Benchmarking and Optimization
Hey everyone! I run the marketing for an ecommerce marketplace and we're doing good on the SEO front of things, with 60%+ of our traffic coming in via search and we're ranking for some competitive keywords. I'm really curious about the conversion rate though. Despite intensive googling, I've not been able to find a rough benchmark for conversion rates. Our conversion rate is about 1.2%, increasing as we continue to do more optimization work with regards to the site's usability. While we track other forms of conversions, the 1.2% conversion rate is for bookings through the site, which is our main source of revenue. Does anyone have a reference guide for conversion rates, particularly for ecommerce marketplaces? I'd like to know if we're doing ok or really bad, and also to take reference from other similar sites to improve our conversion. Thanks!!

Are website optimization and conversion rate optimization roughly the same thing?
This is mostly a semantics question, but I also want to check that I have a basic understanding of the two concepts. Are the two terms more or less interchangeable or are there any crucial differences? I always thought of website optimization as the complementary partner to SEO. While the ultimate goal of SEO is getting people TO your website, website optimization is focused on refining your website so that those people STAY on your website. When I think of conversion rate optimization, I'd imagine that's pretty much the same goal. Refining a website so that more people stay and ultimately convert (buy something, subscribe to a newsletter, etc). Is my understanding of one (or both) of them flawed, or is it six of one, half a dozen of the other? Thanks!

Goals and funnels in Google Analytics
I have an e-commerce site and I'm trying to set up goals and funnels in Google Analytics. I've set the goal URL to my thank you page and am now setting up the funnel steps from home page through category page - product page - shopping cart - checkout. I seem to have set it up wrong though because according to the funnel 100% of the of the people coming in to the home page exists from there too, even though I can see that they have moved on to a category page. I have obviously several categories and product pages. Is there a way to set it up to include all category pages in one funnel step and all product pages in another? The way the website is set up is like this: Categories:

Different subdomains v. subdirectories?
Hi Moz community! I am working with a team to launch an eCommerce project that is becoming increasingly complex. The client has three major brands that are owned by a fourth parent company that they would like to bring together for the first time. We have done a ton of user research and have found that there is a good deal of overlap with two of the brands; the third is very distinct and the parent company is virtually unknown in America. Because of this, we have designed different feels for each brand while making them significantly more coherent. We have also done our homework re: keyword and market research. Our goals are 1) unify and improve their brand identity, 2) create a supreme eCommerce user experience, 3) have smart SEO. So here is my question: should the URL structure best be: EX 1: brand1.parentco.com , brand1.parentco.com/products , brand1.paretnco.com/products/specific-product etc... EX 2: parentco.com/brand1 , parentco.com/brand1/products , parentco.com/brand1/product EX 3: parentco.com/brand1-products , parentco.com/brand1-products/specific-product EX 4: brand1.com , brand2.com , brand3.com , parentco.com Would it be best to have the brands on their own subdomain or subdirectory? Does it make it looks like the brands aren't significant enough if they are on a subdirectory to humans and/or bots? Are there problems with sharing cart information across subdomains? Currently, between the three brands and the parent company there are about 8 sites that are basically copies of one another. Their domain authority is between 40-70 and 5 of the 8 sites have a significant amount of natural, high quality links. These current sites are basically like EX 4 above and are totally disconnected to one another. Regardless of the structure we chose we are going to redirect everything to keep as much of the current assets as possible. Any insights or information would be so appreciated!

Conversion Rate - site feedback
Hi We gave a website a bit of a facelift last nov with the aim of increasing its position within Search Engines and getting it to begin making sales. The site: www.funkyfootstools.com is now moving in the right direction for its keyphrases, footstools and ottomans although it still needs some work. The issue I have is that from the visitors that come to the site, the stats prove they have a look around, they are just not purchasing - I am not sure if this is because of the layout, ie. usability or if there is something else. Any ideas & feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Carl
