OSE is broken again
-
Getting errors all the time.
-
I'm so glad to hear that! Please do let me know if you run into any other trouble.
-
Seems to be working. Today had no problem.
-
I am so sorry that you ran into this issue again. It looks like there were some after effects of the changes we've been making to stabilize the servers for OSE. The issue should be resolved now, but please let me know if you are still experiencing problems.
-
Sorry to report that, but it's either still broken, or broken again.
Got this few times in the last couple of hours.
-
I have been using OSE over the weekend and it was still broken. Today it seems to work.
-
Thank you so much for your amazing patience! Our engineers released a fix on Friday evening and we've been monitoring the issue over the weekend. Right now, everything seems to be running smoothly again, so please take a look and let me know if you are running into any further issues with OSE.

This is actually a related issue. In order to balance some of the load on our servers, we had to slow collection for the Just Discovered Links and Freshweb tools. We believe that we will be able to backfill the data, but there will be a delay in when the data will be available.
Again, I apologize for the inconvenience this causes!

Hi Chiaryn!
Having a similar problem, however I'm missing two days of data when I use the OSE / Just Discovered tools (3/21-3/23). Wanted to flag with you just in case this is a related issue!
Thanks!
-
Thanks.

I just wanted to give you an update and let you know that we have made some adjustments to lighten the issues you've been encountering. You may still see some intermittent issues making queries in OSE, though they should be much less frequent, but I'm afraid we are still working on clearing out the backlog of exports this issue created. I'll let you know as soon as I have any more details.
Thanks so much for your patience while we continue to work on this.
-
Thanks for following up. Since this is intermittent, it definitely sounds like a load balance issue. Our engineers are looking into this now and I will let you know as soon as I have an update from them. Hopefully, we'll get this resolved soon.
I apologize for the inconvenience this is causing!
-
Here you have it:
It's true sometimes it works, let's say 1 out of 3 queries, my guess is a load balancer is sometimes redirecting the query to something working.
-
Hey Massimilliano,
I'm not seeing any issues when I run queries through OSE, so it would be really helpful if you could let me know exactly the error message you are seeing and the sites you are querying when you get this error? A screenshot of the error would also be helpful.
I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Chiaryn

Why does OSE show different link equity for homepage with and without trailing slash?
Hi all, I am working with a developer who believes OSE (Open Site Explorer) is flawed. His reasoning is that OSE shows completely different link equity and domain authority for these two URLs [company name is purposely withheld]: http://www.mydomain.com/us/ and http://www.mydomain.com/us NOTE: http://www.mydomain.com/us has been properly 301-redirecting to http://www.mydomain.com/us/ for years. The developer's argument is that the URL that is being 301-redirected shouldn't have any link equity at all, therefore OSE is flawed. Here is the response I would like to give him. Please feel free to poke holes, provide feedback or flat out correct me if I am wrong: Dear inquisitive developer, Any URL that is being linked to by another site that has link equity will get link equity passed to it. This is true even if the URL is a page that doesn't exist. What it can't do (if it doesn't exist) is then pass that link equity on to another page. Moz's OSE is showing separate link equity for the two versions of this URL because other sites have linked to both versions. The fact that one 301-redirects to the other is good and ensures that link equity from one is passing to the preferred URL. The 301-redirect does not, however, remove link equity from the first URL, but rather passes the existing link equity from one to the other. Consequently, Moz's OSE is not flawed, but rather is displaying the link equity of one URL that is benefiting the other via a 301-redirect. Sincerely, Dana

Why is OSE showing a higher Domain Authority than Moz?
Moz has today run monthly reports for 2 of my clients' sites. For both of these, the Domain Authority reported on the Moz dashboard is several points lower than that shown by OSE today for the same sites. Why would that be?

Confused about the link metrics showing up in MOZ & OSE
For my campaign "itelligence Applications" which is for site itelligencegroup.com/uk/ - MOZ seems to be giving me different stats on links, depending on which tab I look it in the Link Analysis section. Then when I look at OSE, the numbers are totally different again, not just a little bit different. Example: In MOZ Link Analysis, on the "inbound links" tab, it says there are 129 Root Domains and 6832 Total External Inbound Links. If I then look at the Competitive Metrics screen, it says there are 46,284 external followed links and 240 total linking root domains. If I then go to OSE for the same site, it says there are 14 Root Domains and 686 total links. I have no idea why these numbers vary so much or how to even report them to my client. Am I missing something here? Any help would be gratefully received! Maureen

Drastic drop in LRD from OSE report has me confused... Any idea why?
We just got our report from OSE and a week ago we had over 80 LRD's with DA34/PA44 and now we see only 27 LRD's DA32/PA34? Why such a significant drop in our LRD's which I'm sure has affected everything else in the software. We checked Google Webmasters and don't see a drop in our linking URLs. We see it fluctuate all the time, but nothing like this. I'm not so much concerned with DA/PA at the moment as I know that dropped from lack of data the system can read, but why did over 60% of our LRDs disappear overnight? Anyone else seeing this happen to them? Our URL is whiteboardcreations.com

OSE and HTTPS
It's been quite a few months since the last updates regarding HTTPS crawling of OpenSiteExplorer. https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/20770156-open-site-explorer-to-crawl-https http://moz.com/community/q/in-opensiteexplorer-why-is-https-not-an-option But, as the last update dates October 2013, is there any news in regards to the progress on this subjects? More and more sites are switching to full HTTPS and support for this has been asked and responded upon for over two years. Thanks for any updates.
