Opt-in Form as Hidden Text - what do you think?
-
Hi All,
I have at least 2 website that have opt-in form that isn't visible all the time (cookie related). Also, the thank you message will appear (obviously) only after signing in.
Here how it looks like:

What do you think? It may penalize my website or do you find it legit?

Hi Shahar,
Thanks for the question.
As the other guys have said, it's hard to predict how the search engines will react to hidden content. In this case though, I highly doubt that this form would cause a penalty. You're not hiding this content with the intent of manipulation or anything like that and if a Googler were to look at this, they'd see that you're not to hide anything bad.
I hope that helps!

Hi Sharar,
It is hard to say definitively what the Search Engines will make of this text, as it is consistent between pages, they will likely class it as template content, rather than page content, but it will still be assessed as something.
To be on the safe side, is it possible to have this content only populate the
via javascript? I am assuming the Class or style on thatchanges so it appears, so when doing that, you could put the text in rather than just changing it's visibility?
However, doing this will take those words out of your word count, so I would recommend upping the text content on at least your most important pages, (if not all pages) to compensate for this.
Kind Regards
Jimmy

Anybody?
-
Hi Alice,
This form and code are on every single page, including the homepage
Do you still think it's not problematic?
When I check the cached version (text only) I can see it as part of the overall text
-
Hi Sahar,
As far as I know crawler doesn't submit form and crawler wouldn't find the page that comes after submission. No it won't penalize your site.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Hi,
As the hidden text does not contain any of your keywords, I would be surprised if any search engines had a problem with the content in such a markup.
If that content was keyword heavy and hidden from view then you would be likely to incur scrutiny from the search engines.
Kind Regards
Jimmy

Penguin 3.0 - Very minor drops across the board. Don't think its a penalty, any ideas?
Hey All, I just can't figure this out. My site has been ranking well for years, i've never done anything suspicious with it and since the penguin update, my rankings have dropped across the board but only by about 4 - 8 places each, some terms have went up from nowhere to page 8 etc. I don't think i've been hit with a penalty, so I don't know what the problem is or how to recover from it. Does anybody have any ideas on what could be wrong? Update: Perhaps some sites that were linking to mine have been hit with a penalty? Update 2: I just found myself somehow in some spammy link network for 600 sites that looked identical, I don't know how or why my website is in this! I have disavowed all of these links 5 days ago, no change to rankings. pY80Dzi

Panda 4.0 Update Affected Site - What should be a the minimum Code to Text Ratio we should aim for ?
Hi All, My eCommerce site got hit badly with the Panda 4.0 update so we have been doing some site auditing and analysis identifying issues which need addressing. We have thin/duplicate issues which I am quite sure was part of the reason we were affected by this even though we use rel=next and rel=prev along with having a separate view all page although we don't concanical tag to this page as I dont' think users would benefit from seeing to many items on one page. This led me to look at our Code to Content Ratio. We have now managed to increase it from 9% to approx 18-22% on popular pages by getting rid of unnecessary code etc. My question is , is there an ideal percentage the code to content ratio should be ?.. and what should I be aiming for ? Also any other Panda 4.0 advice would also be appreciated thanks Sarah

New domain or wait - Anchor Text Penalty
Hi We are confident we have an anchor text penalty and have removed nearly all offending links about 3 months ago, and since have only engaged on 100% natural linking with good content and simply asking people to share our site. However we have made no progress all in terms on position for our main keyword - we now thinking of starting a fresh on a new domain as Google doesn't seem to be able to forgive us... Any ideas please?

Internal Anchor Text - Partial or Exact Match Does It Matter?
When linking internally on an ecommerce site between pages and from a sitemap, is partial or exact match on the anchor text a significant factor? If it matters to Google, which is a better practice to use? I found plenty of info on external links, but precious little on internal links (which suggests it doesn't matter enough to worry about).

Impact of slight character variations in anchor text
Does anyone have experience of how Google deals with slight character variations, e.g. Facade v Façade? From an SEO perspective, are these treated as two completely separate words or is Google clever enough to determine the intent of the searcher & the site?
