Internal Linking
-
Hi
I've been looking over my pages and it says for this page for example http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/1-6kw-halogen-heater
I have too many links, I think it was about 178.
These links are from the menu and bottom of the page - how much of an issue is this for internal linking structure? I wouldn't want to remove the menus or change them too much.
Thank you!

do you think this would have much impact for SEO?
Five years ago, my answer would have been a definite YES! That is when the flow of PageRank through your site meant a lot. Each link that you removed would cause more PageRank to flow through the links that remain.
Today, Google has not said that PageRank is less important (that I have heard or read) but I am betting that it is a lot less important. I believe that it is being replaced by the authority of your domain, the engagement level of your visitors, and those "machine learning" factors that Google connected to their most recent changes.
But, every little bit of strength that you can get into your moneymaking pages is important, and for that reason, I would get rid of as many nonessential links in your template as possible.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Yes I've already looked at those sister company links and thought about trying to do exactly as you suggested, but yes it would be a hard sell and I would have to show some benefit to removing them.
I will look at consolidating those other sections with one footer link - do you think this would have much impact for SEO?

Lots of people and SEO guides say that you should not have over 100 links on a page.
You can hear about the history of this straight from Matt Cutts in the video on this page.
The Google guidance for today is to "keep it reasonable" but they can crawl and count a lot more than 100.... and often pages with 300... 400... links are fine as long as your links are not spammy.
When I look at the footer of your page... If this was my site, I would simplify it. I would have one link to "Help".... one to "Services".... one to "Manutan Group".
But, before deciding exactly what to do, I would run crazyegg or a simliar service on some pages and see if anybody is clicking on the links in the footer to find out what links might be important to visitors. Some links like, terms & conditions, privacy, cookie policy, should always be there but a lot of others can all be addressed on one deep page.
I would also replace the dropdown to Manutan Family and replace it with one link to an "international sites" page where lots of information and links to country sites is provided.
That's what I would do, but I would not be surprised if manager level people didn't like me cutting back on the Manutan links.

Links to external site (hotels link)
Hello, I am currently designing the webpages of my website and I am wondering if I should link externally or if it going to hurt me ? I am in the travel industry and for example in the France in the Loire valley, I want to list hotels that people can stay at in pre and pods trip. Is it ok to link to maybe 10 of those hotels websites or can it hurt me ? Thank you,

Internal links and URL shortners
Hi guys, what are your thoughts using bit.ly links as internal links on blog posts of a website? Some posts have 4/5 bit.ly links going to other pages of our website (noindexed pages). I have nofollowed them so no seo value is lost, also the links are going to noindexed pages so no need to pass seo value directly. However what are your thoughts on how Google will see internal links which have essential become re-direct links? They are bit.ly links going to result pages basically. Am I also to assume the tracking for internal links would also be better using google analytics functionality? is bit.ly accurate for tracking clicks? Any advice much appreciated, I just wanted to double check this.

Internal nofollows?
We have a profile page on our site for members who join. The profile page has child pages that are simply more specific drill-downs of what you get on the main profile page. For example: /roger displays all of roger's posts, questions, and favorites and then there are /roger/posts, /roger/questions, /roger/favorites. Since the child pages contain subsets of the content on the main profile page, we canonical them back to the main profile page. Here's my question: The main profile page has navigation links to take you to the child pages. On /roger, there are links to: /roger/posts, /roger/questions, and /roger/favorites. Currently, we nofollow these links. Is this the right way to do it? It seems to me that it's a mistake, since the bots will still crawl those pages but will not transfer PR. What should we do instead: 1. Make the links js links so the child pages won't be crawled at all? 2. Make the links follow so that PR will flow (see Matt Cutts' advice here)? Apprehension about doing this: won't it dilute crawl budget (as opposed to #1)? 3. Something else? In case the question wasn't confusing enough... here's another piece: We also have a child page of the profile that is simply a list of members (/roger/friends). Since this page does not have any real content, we are currently noindex/nofollow -ing it and the link to this page is also nofollow. I'm thinking that there's a better solution for this as well. Would love your input!

International SEO
Hi all, The company that I work for is planning to target some french (and some other foreign) keywords. The thing is, in our industry, you can't just hire someone to translate the content/pages. The pages have to be translated by an accredited translator. Here's the thing, it costs a LOT of money just to translate a few thousand words. So, the CEO decided to translate a few of our 'core' pages and SEO them to see if it brings results. My questions are, would it be possible from a technical point of view to simply translate a few pages? Would that cause a problem for the search engine crawlers? Would those pages be 'seen' as duplicates? Thanks in advance guys!

International SEO and Server Hosting
I am quite new to international SEO. I have a customer who wants to use the same website content on various domains targeting different countries. Such as; xxxx.hk - same content targeting Hong Kong xxxx.co.uk - same content targeting UK xxxx.de - same content targeting Germany I found that it could be possible with the Google suggested hreflang without any duplicate content problem. Is that true? Could someone explain this for me. Another question; if above is true do we need to make other adjustments as well. Such as; Any adjustments in Google Webmaster Tools (for each domain) Server location, does that really make a difference? Can we host each of the domains on the same server or should we seperate them and host each one on the country it is targeting ? Thanks in advance!

How should i best structure my internal links?
I am new to SEO and looking to employ a logical but effective internal link strategy. Any easy ways to keep track of what page links to what page? I am a little confused regarding anchor text in as much as how I should use this. e.g. for a category page "Towels", I was going to link this to another page we want to build PA for such as "Bath Sheets". What should I put in for anchor text? keep it simple and just put "Bath Sheets" or make it more direct like "Buy Bath Sheets". Should I also vary anchor text if i have another 10 pages internally linking to this or keep it the same. Any advise would be really helpful. Thanks Craig

Removed Internal Rel=NoFollows from power internal page - how long till reflected in Google?
I just started with a client, who has an internal page (not the homepage) that gets about 70% of all total links to the site and ranks #1 for a highly competitive keyword. For some reason, the first set of links, including the first anchor text link to the homepage are nofollowed. I removed the nofollows yesterday. Today, The internal page has already been reindexed in Google showing the followed anchor text link to the homepage Should I expect a jump in link juice pointing to my homepage immediately with a corresponding rankings boost? Homepage is #8 for target term. I hope this makes sense. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
