If someone were to link to our site on now on an old article (dating back 1-2 years) is that still beneficial if all other variables are good?
-
I'm trying to build up our external links and am finding lots of opportunities, some of which are on older articles dating back to 2014, 2013 etc. These pieces are relevant to our site and have high DA, I'm wondering if the post date of these articles matter?
Thanks!

It's absolutely still beneficial! And if it's high quality content, there's a good chance it's been building up even more authority over the course of those years. It would probably be a good idea to make sure the content gets marked "updated" or "new," though. No sense in just slipping the link in there and walking away.

I saw an interesting article from Razorlight Media about this topic a couple of months ago. I've linked it here for you, as it might show some kind of evidence regarding how Google treats post dates with a real-world example.
Honestly though, I've found that if the content is good, has a high DA, and is consistently receiving traffic, it shouldn't be an issue. That being said, is there anything you can do to update your material that would warrant an updated date (without affecting the URL, of course)? That might be something you want to consider to show other readers that its still extremely relevant material and is regularly updated.

Links are good, no matter what the post date is! What's even better though is to update your best content, slap a shiny NEW date on it, then promote it. Now you've got a fresh blog, a boost in traffic, and the links!
Also, if you want to slack just a little bit, you can just change the date. This usually boosts click through rate, as everyone likes fresh content (even if it's only the date that's fresh).

Links from spam sites
Hi! Thank you in advance for your help. Few months ago we suffered a content spam attack. Now, We have discovered that we have imbound links pointing the spam content from external spam and untrusted sites. Could be this affect our ranking? In this case... How can we notify to Google that we refuse these imbound links? Cheers, Luis

Creating your own blog for back linking to your site
Our competitor seems to be linked to a blog that they have created themselves. From an SEO perspective is it worthwhile creating a blog that is related to your particular industry and then only including links back to your site. Also is there any way to upload ,articles etc automatically to the blog to cut down on the people hours involved in updating content?

Attaining quality links from sites of a different language.
Working on a campaign for a Bed & Breakfast within non-english market. The possibilities of establishing quality links is very limited. However, as it is most of the time, there are plenty of english sites we can target. What is the latest news on achieving link presence on a site that does not match your own site's language? Given this campaign relates to travel; there shouldn't be an issue in achieving links on foreign sites, is there? Does the PR flow through just the same?

Local service site link building
I have a local service site http://winecountrycarpet.com/ and I have been link building as much as possible for my landing pages (which aren't local to my city, but are within 20 miles). I would like to keep my link building as above board and white hat as possible (so i do a lot of forum sigs and links in do follow forum in my industry) I do not seem to be seeing any results though. My pages are on the first page for their targeted keywords, but I think this has more to do with onsite SEO and non competitive keywords. I am wondering if anyone can recommend any strategies that I might find more effective. I have thought about leaving blog comments on do follow blog's but it just seems so spammy its hard to imagine it working. I am open to any ideas.

Are old links worth more juice?
In the last week and a half at a couple of shows in London, and including today on SEOmoz Q&A, I've heard polarised opinions on this topic, so thought I'd throw it out there to see what other people think, and what evidence/experience people have with this. Basically - some people are saying older links are worth less than new links, and others are saying old link are worth don't devalue and are possibly worth more. I have to admit, I don't have a strong opinion on this, as it is really hard to judge on live projects, and I think it is a case by case thing. Any thoughts?
