Best Practice for ALT tags of flags to interlink multinational site
-
For a partial keyword match domain name what would you recommend as ALT tag to internlink country domains (different CCTLD)?
Option 1)
DOMAIN.com DOMAIN.de DOMAIN.co.uk=> I am a bit concerned about this option in terms of potential penalty for keywords in ALT (since partial match domains)
Option 2)
UK
DE
FR ...Option 3)
English UK
Deutsch Deutschland
Deutsch Österreich
Francais France=> concerned here about mixing lots of languages in ALT tags in each page, which may confuse google language detection.

thanks Oleg.
yes, this makes much more sense.

thanks Zeph.
in our case it is not an issue. We actually have flags and localized versions for US, UK and also CAN.
Also for the swiss we have a intuitive flag solution considering french, german and italian version.

Hi Icourse,
I know this was not the question, but my suggestion is that you don't use flags at all. Have a tab at the top of the page with a drop down menu and allow the user to select their own language.
Unless you are only going to get visits from the countries you list of course.
If I am a US user, I will find it mildly irritating to have to choose the UK flag to get the language I want. Same if I am a Swiss French speaker.
I actually wrote about this very topic for the Outspoken Media: http://outspokenmedia.com/seo/make-your-international-visitors-feel-welcome/

Don't think its a big deal but I think the best alt text would be the language represented by the flag, in the language of the page.
i.e. English site would have alt text to "Translate to Spanish" "Translate to French"
Spanish site would have alt text "Traducir a Ingles" "Traducis a francés"

Guest Blog post best practice considering time/energy
Good morning Moz community 🙂 What do you guys think would be the best practice as a starting blogger offering guest articles to other 3rd party blogs when it comes to building up my own website's SEO points (assuming I have a link in the guest article to my website). 1. If I have the opportunity to post the guest article on two+ different blogs, should I go for it? -OR- 2. Only post the article on one specific blog and write a different one for the others? In a world with unlimited resources, the latter option would prevail, but considering that it takes time to write, what would you recommend if I am trying to build my websites SERPs? Carlos

Static looking URL - Best practices?
We are about to modify the structure of our dynamic URLs and I wonder what the latest and greatest is in terms of SEO-friendly dynamic URLs. Our thinking so far is to do something like: www.domain.com/products/state/city/first-search-parameter+second-parameter+third-parameter+any-additional-keywords that is, using + to separate search parameters and hyphens to separate words An example might be www.homes.com/listings/ca/san-francisco/single-family-home+3-bedrooms+2-bathrooms+swimming-pool-garden-wood-exterior I'm not an SEO expert so any help would be appreciated Thanks

Please share best practices for subfolders and paths in a domain name
I am seeking feedback on the best way to proceed with regards to a project I am working on. Say for example the domain was domain.com and this site wanted to target specific markets such as realtors, attorneys, churches, and restaurants. Which URL structure would be better? domain.com/industries/attorneys or domain.com/attorneys Can I get your feedback along with any supporting articles. This is for a large ecommerce site but these particular pages are solely going to be used for marketing purposes to bring those site visitors to the website to let them know we understand their needs. Thanks for your help> Malcom

Website Siloing..best practice?
Hi all I am doing some research this week on the effects of siloing a Magento site. We have about 1,654 pages with approx 1,400 products. We want to silo the website in order to address the internal linking issues and to also focus the customer journey in a more organised way. I need to report all of the possible angles and effects that this will have on the site, prior to implementing it. Does anyone have info on best practice for siloing? I'd appreciate any help... Thanks Nick

On-Site Optimization Tips for Job site?
I am working on a job site that only ranks well for the homepage with very low ranking internal pages. My job pages do not rank what so ever and are database driven and often times turn to 404 pages after the job has been filled. The job pages have to no content either. Anybody have any technical on-site recommendations for a job site I am working on especially regarding my internal pages? (Cross Country Allied.com)
