Blog question
-
If i set up a blog like this - http://www.abccompany.com/blog ? ( in a folder ), will each link to http://www.abccompany.com/blog carry more value to the main site than if the blog were set up like this- http://www.blog.abccompany.com
-
Thanks EGOL.
What is the code to redirect http://www.blog.abccompany.com to http://www.abccompany.com/blog
-
I agree with EGOL, I set my sites up like that as well, though I often use WordPress to create my sites, and both Genesis and Woo framework make it nice and easy.
-
I believe that the answer is YES... and that is how my sites are set up.
Blogs are in a folder of the root domain.
I redirected all subdomains into folders of the root about a year ago and the results have been kickass.

De-indexing and SSL question
Few days ago Google indexed hundreds of my directories by mistake (error with plugins/host), my traffic dropped as a consequence. Anyway I fixed that and submitted a URL removal request. Now just waiting things to go back to normality. Meantime I was supposed to move my website to HTTPS this week. Question: Should I wait until this indexing error has been fixed or I may as well go ahead with the SSL move?

Pros and Cons of using rel=next on blog posts
Hi there, at the bottom of my website's blog posts the rel=prev and rel=next tags are used on links that point to the previous article that was posted and the next article that was posted. Often these articles are not 'linked' in terms of their content or message. Is this the correct use of rel=next/prev and if not what are the possible negative effects. Many thanks.

Updating old blog posts in Wordpress to appear more recent?
I'm doing work for a law firm that has a lot of blog post content from 2010-2011 ranking for long-term keywords. These pages are displaying date snippets in SERPs, but because legal information can change year to year, I don't want the content to appear as though it's 2-3 years old. The date of the post is in the URL structure, so I can't change the publication date w/o changing the URL. So my question is twofold: is there a way to show an updated date snippet in search results, or block the date snippet from showing, even if the date is in the URL? Or are there other options - creating pages for each of these posts and 301ing them to the page that has a cleaner URL, etc.? Thanks in advance for your help!

Controlling PageRank Flow Question
One of my competitors rose above me drastically, above everyone actually. His website has a sidebar on the homepage, but when you click a post it leads to a full width page of his content - with no sidebar at all. The only button on page is HOME. My site has the sidebar on all pages, meaning juice is flowing around in all directions. Would it be smarter for me to remove my sidebar as well? In theory, this would create a boost in rankings correct?

Blog is outranking my root domain - Why and Help
I have an odd question concerning SERP rankings on Google along with PageRank and Google Trust. I have a website created in HTML with a WP blog created in a sub-directory. I am finding that the blog is getting relatively good rankings yet it seems the root domain is not getting any of the rank or trust passed onto it as it consistently is outranked by the blog. In fact, for a few of our targeted keywords the root domain does not even show up at all, yet the blog does. Our blog is #2 in Google SERPs, a top Google Place ranking, a Youtube video in the top 10 and a Google Ad place somewhere in the mix of first page ads. The root domain is nowhere to be found. Is there something I need to correct either on the site, in Google Webmaster or in WP Settings that I am not aware that is pushing all the Google Rank and Trust to the blog instead of the other way around? I considered changing the WP Site URL to the root domain thinking it will pass more SEO mojo to the root. But I don't think this is the way to go. I am kind of at a loss, any help is appreciated.

Putting blog excerpts in footer of every page?
I have roughly 150 non-blog pages and 500 articles in my blog. The footer of every non-blog page includes excerpts from 3 blog posts selected at random from the inventory of 500. The posts in the footer of each page change with every page refresh. So, if you scroll to the bottom of any non-blog page, you'll see about 85 words for each of 3 randomly selected blog posts, with a link to the source article in the blog section of my site. Each page will link to 3 different posts. One of my objectives is to drive visitors to some older blog content that has become buried deep in the archives over the years. Question 1: In a post-Panda/Penguin world, is this a good or bad technique? Question 2: Should the links to the full content in the blog use rel="nofollow"? Without it, the internal link structure for this part of the site looks pretty crazy and random - I assume nofollow would help make things look more orderly (and prevent my main non-blog pages from passing excess link juice to my blog). Thoughts or comments?

Blog in subfolder or folder
SEO best practices says that one should put blog in a subfolder. Like www.example,com/blog In the above case, should we say that the blog is in folder or subfolder. Actually, i have been unsure about this folder vs subfolder thing. Some examples of this would be appreciated. What is the example of a blog in a subdomain ? Thanks
