Anchor Text Profile Only Branded
-
So, I was looking at my backlink anchor text profile and easily over 90% of my links use some variation of my brand as the anchor text. This includes my full brand name, a shorter more common name and the naked url. My question is, is this bad for my ranking? I know having too many money words as anchors is not good, but what about having too many brand anchors?
-
While on a smaller scale it may not have a direct influence on ranking (because it is a brand name) it can be an issue if it is overdone. I believe for brand names (in most industries) Google does not penalize as heavily when compared to standard anchor text or keywords. However, moving forward I would try to limit over-usage of your brand name and continue to use the other variations as well.

Google allows a higher threshold of brand name anchor texts because that's how people would naturally link to you commonly. That being said, it's good to hear that they are variations, I would keep mixing them up as much as possible.

I think it depends on the niche that you are in and what your competitors are doing. If your competitors have a very small percentage of branded anchor text, that could make you stand out, hopefully in a good way. High percentage domain/brand match anchor text is generally a very good SEO practice.

Hi Moz community, Seems like Bing already confirmed that they are using link-less mentions for the ranking graph and some SEO experts believe if Google also employing the same in their Algo....Can anybody please confirm and share your thoughts on this? Thanks

A problem when our brand name is searched
We have an issue in that when someone enters our new brand name "68 degrees creative" into google.com.au, the following results show: http://postimg.org/image/8x2id4ta9/ The second result is the Linked In page for Hiroshi. This is a person that was part of our old business but is no longer part of the new business (68 degrees creative). And therefore, his LinkedIn profile should not be appearing for this search as he has nothing to do with the new brand. In his LinkedIn profile, he has made no mention of our organisation 68 degrees creative. He also does not feature on our website: www.68degrees.com.au. We can therefore only conclude that the reason he is appearing for the search "68 degrees creative" is that Google has somehow connected him with the new organisation due to previous online ties and relationships which Google has determined by virtue of that associated him with the new organisation. We are ultimately unsure what their algorithm is in establishing this. Is there any way in which we can change this? We don't want his LinkedIn profile appearing when our company name is searched when he has not part of the company. Any help here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Moving to new domain - Social and Branding Questions?
Hi, We are moving to a new domain because our rankings drastically dropped and we want to "start over". For example - If my company is called Joes Computers and the domain was JoesComputers.com and the new domain which will hold our e-commerce website will be completely different for example - BestComputers.com - which do I brand? Which do I put as suffix in all titles?

COOL TITLE FOR PRODUCTS | Best Computers
or
COOL TITLE FOR PRODUCTS | Joes Computers Which name do I take for social profiles? Company or Domain?
(We currently have for the company since it was the same). Please note that our company name is already a little bit known... and therefore inside the website it will be labeled in Logos etc. We would also state "Best Computers by Joes Computers" (as if it is a sub brand or daughter company). Google Plus for Businesses - Should I add users to Company's Circles (branded page)?
Hi All, I know (or think I know) that one of the easiest ways to gain followers for my brand on G plus is to add people to our company's circles. Naturally, they often add you back. However, what does it mean to people who watch my brand (my G Plus page), the fact that I'm following thousands of people? Should I do it? How does it reflect on us?

Is there a better way to gain followers (specifically for G Plus)? P.S
We obviously have the badge on site but we hardly gain followers that way. Thanks0 -
Footer anchors question
A few months ago, we changed the anchors in all of our websites footers to rel="nofollow". We did this so we could drop the possibility of getting hit by the penguin update. So first, we had anchors in the template of every website that read something along the lines of "web design by bluetone media". This was on every page, so we quickly changed every link in our footers to nofollows so it would show Google that we were using that space for mainly branding purposes, instead of stealing juice from clients. However, after monitoring our link analysis, we have severely dropped in domain authority, domain moztrust, domain mozrank and more. I believe this is due to the lack of followed links, so would it be best to go back and remove all of the links from the templates of our websites and just leave the dofollow links on the homepages of our websites, or just wait it out and see what happens. This crazy decline in domain authority has only recently happened, should I expect a bounce back soon?

Anchor Text
1) What anchor text should be used? For instance, German Shepherd figurines from "domain name" ? Should the link go the the home page of the "domain name: or the page about German Shepherds? Should the clickable link be German Shepherd figurines or the "domain name" home page ? 4)should the clickable link be the "domain name" page name leading to the German Shepherd page? Thanks Mike

Social Profile for my business, where do I start
Hi, Today our business has no social presence so we are starting from the ground up. We have implemented the Google +1 button across the site, but nothing more. The social sites I'm considering targeting are: Linked In Twitter Facebook Google +1 I already have personal accounts used personal sharing on Linked In, FB and +1. I'm unsure whether I need to create a new facebook account for each of those and then create the business profile on each one or whether I should use my existing personal account. Further, for Google +1, there was no requirement to create any business page of any kind, all I had to do was take the code and insert it into the website. That confused me as for Facebook and Linked In, I was sure you must have an account up in order to have the social Like or Share button working Given I'm at the very start of this process, it would be great to get others input into how they went about this, and perhaps share any pitfalls they may seem obvious to avoid in hindsight. Thanks.
