One question about the domain choice.
-
Hi guys, I'm an Italian Web marketing and I'm studying SEO since some moths.
First, sorry for my bad english....
Second, the question:
My Italian blog is going really GREAT in terms of popularity and incomes and know I want to bring it in english language with the help of a professional translator.
The choice that I have to take is about the future domain of the english blog. My Italian blog has as url mynameandmysurname.net
I don't really like to make the english blog appears like myitalianblogurl.net/english because I think it's a little bit confusing and not professional.
I have also thought the idea to make a sub domain like blog.myitalianurl.net.
What about the WPML plugin? Do you think it's a great choice? I don't like it because it's confusing and it affect my italian blog.
Or maybe is it better to create a new branded blog with different domain? It can be an idea but I think that If I chose this way I will lose all my seo efforts of the last years

No. Do it from the English version form or email me at italiaseo at gmail dot com

Hi Gianluca!
I have written you through the form of your italian seo blog. Did u get it?
-
Ciao Dario,
first of all everything said by Samuel is correct.
Said that, I would not care that much about the domain name being your own name. All the contrary! Use it for improving your personal brand: it doesn't exist a better way to make remember your name to other marketers than having it in the domain itself.
Related to what multi-language option, I consider that the subfolder one should be the best. With WPML combined with WordPress SEO by Yoast you can optimize all the SEO factors also for the /en/ subfolders.
Using the subfolder option will help the English version gaining some link equity from the Italian version, hence starting appearing for not too competitive queries.
Said that, you should start putting in action a good inbound strategy in order to outreach other sites and, especially, others mid to high influencing experts in your niche, so to create bonds and co-marketing opportunity.
Again, work on your personal brand... which means being very active on social. And, remember, social is not just Social Networks. It is also being proactive in communities (blogs and forums) and helpful (i.e.: answering questions in Quora).

First, if you're Italian and have international SEO questions, there's no one better to ask than Gianluca Fiorelli.
But here are some helpful links. First, review this page of introductory guidelines and the related links. Some more detail from Google. A Webmaster Support question. For a checklist type of guide, I'd suggest this post by Moz Associate Aleyda Solís.
Basically, you want to 1.) put the English-language version on either a subdomain or a subdirectory; 2.) insert the appropriate language markup on both the Italian and English versions of pages; and 3.) if applicable, change any target settings for each domain/directory in Google Webmaster Tools.
Good luck!

Can you canonical from one domain page to a different domain page
We are a boating site and have our main site with all it's products. We have an engine section within our main site. But we also have an outside domain, specific to a certain manufacturer of engines. So we want our customers to still find the engine information for this manufacturer within our main site, as well as find the manufacturer targeted engine site in the SERPS. My question is this: Can I canonical those pages within our main site to pages on the outside domain? Or does are canonicals to be used only within the same domain? Thanks,

Subdomain vs. Root Domain design
I know that there are penalties if you have a navigation item in your categories that links to another site (root domain) that yields the same design as the original link. Is there any negative SEO implications with having a subdomain with the same design as the root domain i.e. root.com vs. store.root.com And the navigation functionality within will have links to both store.root.com as well as root.com directories? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know an "updated" all in one cheat cheat for on page SEO
howdy guys, after panda, and penguin, i wanted to know if anyone has any good references for a cheat sheet that has ALL the on page SEO factors like title tag, image tags, H1-H6, etc, the basics, but since the zoo got loose I dont know if things have changed for on page SEO. For example what is the optimal KW density we should be using etc. i found this list : http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/internet/google-ranking-factors.htm but it seems to be a bit outdated, if someone can share something similar to this list but something more recent, like a few weeks old, i think that would help the community out a great bunch! thanks guys

If i only want to rank for one specific keyword and use it in all my page titles, will it negatively affect my rankings?
If i want to rank highest for one specific keyword (virtualization management, for example) and use that keyword in all the titles on my website, will that negatively affect my search rankings? SEOmoz is telling me that i should use unique titles for my different pages to ensure that they describe each page uniquely and don't compete with each other for keyword relevance.

This is a real dumb question about on page optimization
I've been reading the docs for using this site and am puzzled by the on page optimization reports, and the tactics for creating the reports. In no place can i find that you first must use the keywords you have identified to track in the campaign on pages on your web site. Am i missing something? From just reading how to do your campaign, it would appear that you never have to touch your pages with the keywords you want to track, all 500 of them for one page, if that's what you want to do. Not knowing how the application works, it is possible to imagine anything, including not needing to do the obvious steps of writing a well optimized page first. I want to presume that first you optimize your pages with the keywords you want to track, then go ahead and run your campaign. Although this is the obvious thing, I don't see that part of the seo puzzle being mentioned in any of the docs. Where do i hunt for that part of the equation?

Should one page with markers or six separate pages?
Hi - I'm working on a site that was set up with 6 bios on one page, with markers jumping to each person's name. I was thinking about separating those into 6 different pages, but not sure if that's the right thing to do. Advice about keeping the bios on one page vs splitting them up? (Am I more likely to rank for those peoples' names if I have a unique page, or is the one page url with each different marker in it, just as good?) Ranking well for those names isn't a huge goal of the site, but it would be nice to make the choice that would help with that rank. Thanks for your input Emma

Several short articles, or one long one?
This may be a very basic question... In terms of the overall benefit to the SEO of a website, is it better to have, say, 4 pages about different aspects of the same subject (i.e. wooden lintels, steel lintels, concrete lintels and cavity lintels) or to have one page containing all the information? I have a site with roughly 250 pages, which could probably condense down to almost half that. The vast majority of inbound links point to either the homepage or one of the 20-odd most vistited pages. Of those, 2 or 3 pages count for roughly 70% of entrances. So should I concentrate on adding new pages, or improving/expanding the existing pages?
