Googl travel dates
-
I have just noticed, while checking where our hotel clients rank for certain keywords, and noticed a panel on the left hand side called Travel dates. There was a check in and check out option which could be populated manually or by using a drop down calendar. But there's no submit button or anything like that. What is this panel for, and can any benefit be had from it, because from what I can see it doesn't actually do anything (unless it's not displaying properly on my computer?

Thanks for the link Keri. Apparently the feature has not been fully implemented as of yet.

This was a new product that launched in July. More information about the launch is available at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2389441,00.asp#fbid=3l_OuvCiiLd.

Is it possible your browser has a plug-in related to travel?
-
That's very odd then. When I get a mo, I'll do a screen grab so you can see what I'm seeing, but that may not be until Monday.
-
I tried the link you offered. The search works fine but I do not see any calendar. I tried in both FF and IE. I am not using any pop-up nor ad blocking software.
The left sidebar shows "Everything, Images, Videos, News, Shopping, More" then below that there is a "Search Near" box and a "The Web - pages from UK" widget. No calendar.
-
What if you paste this into the address bar?
-
I tried searching "hotels near henley" in both google.com and google.co.uk. I did not see a calendar for either search.
What exact tool are you using for your search? Google? Yahoo? Bing? Another search engine? Which country location is your search based on? .com? .co.uk? Something else?
-
Hi Ryan,
The option comes up when I search for 'hotels near henley', but I also didn't get it when looking for London hotels, which probably implies it's tied to certain searches that are more specific than just having hotel in them, which seems odd. You'd think if there was a use they for them, they would be in all travel-based enquiries?
-
Where exactly did you notice this calendar?
I tried searching "London hotels" in Google and did not see any calendar.

Getting indexed in Google Scholar
Hi all! We have a client who publishes scholarly research as a highly regarded non-profit. Their Publications aren't being indexed in Google Scholar 50% of the time and when they are, Google is pulling random stuff from a PDF vs. from the html page. Any advice on best practices is enormously appreciated

Why rich snippets have disappeared in Google search results ?
Hello, Few weeks ago, we have implemented a snippets strategy in order to increase our ranking for our blog posts. That was successful and our results were showing up in Google. But today, every single snippet has disappeared. We go back to a simple search result, without snippets for us or for our competitors. It seems that Google has delete rich snippet for specific keywords because for the generic keywords (for exemple "inbound marketing definition" in our case), there is still a snippet result. Do you know if Google has changed snippets parameters for keywords with low search volume ? Thank you !

Searching google without bias
i read a tip once and can't find the reference to that tip. It had to do with searching google without including the history of your searches to bias the result. The user was suppose to put a code at the end of the URL, like &pw or something like that. Anyone hear of this?

Google Places - Overcoming a geographical disadvantage
We have done some work on the Google Place entry for this website: http://www.royalhoteliow.co.uk/ We have spent a lot of time ensuring we have consistent address information, to make sure we have a good number of citations, and have worked with the staff at the hotel to ensure that there is a regular stream of reviews coming into a variety of websites that we know are used by Google. However.... Our target searches are 'Isle of Wight Hotels' and 'Isle of Wight Hotel'. If you do a Google map search for 'Isle of Wight', it drops a pin in the middle of the Island, which is 30 miles by 20! The main areas for hotels on the Isle of Wight (dictated by tourism), are about 15 miles from where Google percieves the Isle of Wight is, in the coastal towns. So it seems that no matter how hard we try, in terms of citations and reviews, GP is always going to prioritise those close to the middle of the area. Anyone got experience of a similar issue, or got any suggestions?
