  • Hey guys, I am attempting to optimize a website for my wife's business but Moz is unable to crawl it.  Zenfolio is the web hosting service (she is a photographer). The error message is: **Moz was unable to crawl your site on Apr 1, 2019. **Our crawler was not able to access the robots.txt file on your site. This often occurs because of a server error from the robots.txt. Although this may have been caused by a temporary outage, we recommend making sure your robots.txt file is accessible and that your network and server are working correctly. Typically errors like this should be investigated and fixed by the site webmaster. Read our troubleshooting guide. I did read the troubleshooting guide but nothing worked. My robots.txt file disallows a few bots, but not roger bot.  Anyone have any idea what is going on?  Or do I need to request server logs from Zenfolio? Thanks

  • I really need some major advice on this one. Back in September, I asked a question on here as follows: "A client wanted to change their domain name, which we have now done. The site content itself is exactly the same. We put 301 redirect links in so that Google searchers would redirect from the old site to the new one. However Moz then said that it couldn't crawl the old domain because of the redirects and advised creating a brand new campaign for the new domain. We have done this but now Moz says that the domain authority of the new site is 2 (it was 14 on the old domain)." My original question and the answers I got are here: https://mza.bundledseo.com/community/q/new-domain-wipes-out-domain-authority). Generally the responses I got were that we should give Moz time to crawl the new domain and process all the "new" pages. It is now February, ie 6 months after the domain rename, and on Moz the site still has a DA of 2. It seems like 6 months is enough time to wait. We checked all the recommended guides and believe we have done it all correctly. I really don't know what to do now. Can anyone help or have a quick look and work out why this is so bad? Specifics are:
    old domain: https://ryemeadcleaning.co.uk
    new domain: https://ryemeadgroup.co.uk

  • Hi, reading the Article Spam Score: Moz's New Metric to Measure Penalization Risk I became curious about the mentioned Spam Analysis tool: Right now, you can find Spam Score inside Open Site Explorer, both in the top metrics (just below domain/page authority) and in its own tab labeled "Spam Analysis." I could find the Spam score of my site within the link explorer but I could not find the Spam Analysis tool that checks the 17 key indications that a site might be a spam site. I am also a Free Trial subscriber right now. Where can I find the Spam Analysis tool?

  • Hi, I have created a keyword list with 500 phrases and your software has been set as "Gathering Data" for hours now. I have closed, re-opened, refreshed multiple times and still nothing. Does it really take that long or is there some sort of issue?

  • Hi, I have to set up a campaign for a webshop. This webshop is a subdomain itself. First question: The two subfolders I need to track are /nl_BE and /fr_BE. What is the best way to handle this? Shall I set up two different campaigns for each subfolder, or shall I just make one campaign and add tags to keywords? **Second question: **it seems like Moz can't crawl enough pages. There are no disallows in the robots.txt. Should I try putting the following at the top into my robots.txt? User-agent: rogerbot
Disallow: Or is it because I want to crawl only a subdomain that it doesn't work? Thanks

  • Hi guys, When I try to run a site crawl on Moz it returns an error saying that it has failed due to an error with the robots.txt file. However, my site can be crawled by SEM Rush with no mention of problems with roots.txt file issues. My developer has looked into it and insists their is no problem with my robots.txt and I've tried the Moz crawl at least 6 times over an 8 week period. Has anyone ever seen such a large discrepancy between Moz and SEM Rush or have any ideas why Moz has this issue with my site?? TIA everyone

  • SIte Crawl is flagging multiple entries from my wp-uploads directory as being 'thin content': these are dated folders that contain the images for the site blog, and as such don't have any text/html content at all. Should these directories be crawled at all? How would I go about correcting these warnings?

  • Hi all, Why does the Moz Bar show a different link count from the Moz link analysis page? For example, when I check the SERP below, for the first result, the bar shows 936 page links from 4 RDs. But when I check out the link analysis page, it tells me there are just 141 page links from 4 RDs. What gives? For the second entry, the bar shows 6 page links from 0 RDs. Not sure how that's possible. Can anyone explain these things. Thanks! • Situation: I have a dual domain site:
Domain 1 - www.domain.com is SEO optimised with product pages and should of course be indexed.
Domain 2 - secure.domain.com is not SEO optimised and simply has checkout and payment gateway pages. I've discovered that Moz automatically crawls Domain 2 - the secure.domain.com site and consequently picks up hundreds of errors.
I have put an end to this by adding a robots.txt to stop rogerbot and dotbot (mozs crawlers) from crawling domain 2. This fixes my errors in Moz reports however after doing more research into 'Crawler Control' I figure this might be the best option. My Question: Instead of using robots.txt to stop moz from crawing all of Domain 2 should I use on each page of domain 2? I believe this would then allow moz and google to crawl Domain 2 but also tell them both not to index it.
My understanding is that this would be best, and might even help my overall SEO by telling google not to give any SEO value to the Domain 2 pages?

  • Hi - I'm new to Moz and this forum. After getting a bunch of odd alerts about 803 errors, I signed up for the Site Crawl v2 Beta. Now, I'm not getting any 803 errors, but I am getting alerts that say I'm missing H1 tags on numerous pages. However, there are H1 tags on all pages of our website, and when I search the source code, the H1 tags show up. If someone could help me figure out why I'm getting these alerts, and what I can do to "fix" them, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

  • Hi Moz Comunity! Joined Moz just 2 weeks ago and slowly trying to get used to tools available in here! Great tools and info available on this site! My concern is that Site Crawl of Moz in my Campaign seems to have crawled only my homepage and no other sub-domains, is there any reason for this? FOr some reason it seems that Moz interacts only with my homepage? Even when I tried the Keyword Exlporer set on Keyword to see if any of my pages rank for any keywords, it seems only my homepage was ranking for a few keywords. It's possible my other sub-domains don't rank for any keywords yet but still, seems suspicious... I have added a link to Site Crawl that says it has crawled only 3 pages on my site, and all are my homepage... Thanks for any help! Jacob s!AlxV7sobbcgmhJB_fXcF4EPzbPSovA

  • I have a client that just launched a redesigned website using Angular as a single page app. Google appears to be able to crawl the site just fine, but Moz crawl is only finding one page. We have updated the htaccess to allow for Rogerbot and Dotbot, but still unable to crawl any pages other than the home page. Does anyone have experience with this or ideas of why it won't crawl all pages, and how to allow for Moz to crawl all pages? There is a sitemap with approx. 390 pages. Thanks!

  • Hi. Brand new to Moz Pro today. Question about whether to set up multiple campaigns for one website that promotes multiple services. I own a law firm and we have one main location, one website, 5 attorneys, and about 8-10 practice areas we promote. Each practice area has its own page and related content in the form of guides and blogs. Website is southernmarylandlaw.com. I only have this one website to track and promote, so I initially thought I only have one campaign. But I do want to track these separate practice areas separately. Each will have separate competitors, for instance. Each will need a separate set of keywords. People tend to search for a particular type of attorney, not just for the generic "lawyers." Should I use my 10 campaigns to set up a different campaign for each practice area we promote? Am I doing something wrong by tracking my one website 10 different times in my account? If I do not do this, then how do I possibly track the various practice areas and their separate keywords and competitors? Thanks for all your help and suggestions!

  • I have a website built in SquareSpace. https://www.ruffhaus.com/ I recently started working with MOZ to track and improve organic SEO. After my initial site crawl, search visibility was reported at a waping 2.38%. Moz showed several critical crawler issues. Most were redirect, 4xx and long URL. So I started working on fixing the redirect and 4xx issues first. I thought this was a good thing. But now my already sad search visibility has dropped to .07% (-95.97%!). I also went from #1 on keyword, brand implementation plan (and 3 variations), to #27. What? Wondering where I went wrong and how to remedy? This is all new to me so I am sure I'm not providing all the info you need to answer my question. Hoping providing the site URL will help. Fire away!

  • Today I set up a new campaign for a client, however the crawl has only found the home page and is saying that the URL is unavailable. The site is definitely live and the URL is correct. I have set up the campaign 3 times one with the full address (http://www.) one with www. and with just the domain name. All three of these have come page with one page crawled and "unavailable" above the URL. It is picking up the crawl issues on the page and showing domain authority but I don't know why it's not crawling other pages. Prior to setting up the campaign I did a site crawl and Moz found everything then, so I don't know why it isn't now. Please help. Thanks

  • We switched our website from HTTP to HTTPS and we started to get an email from Moz about the robots.txt being unable to crawl our website. The website is hosted through wordpress but we haven't had any issues until we switched. We have no idea what to do or even what the problem is! If you have had a similar problem and fixed it, we need your help! Thank you.

  • Before I get ahead of myself, I thought I'd ask the community for a quick assist: We have 8 hotels set up under a single domain aggregate website: staypineapple.com
    staypineapple.com/the-maxwell-hotel-seattle-wa
    staypineapple.com/hotel-five-seattle-wa
    staypineapple.com/the-alise-chicago-il
and so on. Should I technically set up the 8 hotels as separate tracked campaigns, complete with new branded search terms, broad search terms and such? Is this best practice? Thank you in advance for any assistance!

  • Hi there, after a site crawl Moz has reported that I have duplicated titles, however I don't understand why or how to fix it. Basically the urls  are for the same collection or product and are identical except one has a -1 on the end of it or sometimes a %20. I cannot delete the url as they don't exist in my shopify store so cannot find them. The relevant page has the correct url when I check in shopify. Anyone have any ideas?

  • I have just signed up to a Moz Pro account, and after it finished crawling my website it gave me a warning about a redirection chain. http://elementpaints.com >> https://elementpIaints.com >> https://www.elementpaints.com I'm trying to find some more information about how to fix this problem but I'm not having much luck. This article I found even says it is not a problem: https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/avoid-landing-page-redirects So now I'm even more confused, do I still need to fix this? If so, how do I do that? FYI: I have Lets Encrypt SSL cert installed on my server, and I'm using Cloudflare with Full SSL option and HSTS enabled, and "Always Use HTTPS" option is turned on. | http://elementpaints.com |

  • I am very confused as to the practical implementation of these 2 terms PA and DA. I have a website  and i want to rank a particular page. So to rank it at the top, should i have more backlinks of page** or **more backlinks of my Homepage. Does more back links of a particular page improves only PA  or (PA & DA) both ?

  • I'm new to Moz and am trying to determine whether to create multiple campaigns broken out into product categories or a single campaign and label keywords by product category. I figure the majority of the folks in the Moz Community are in agency space, so most probably prefer a single campaign per client. We're an in-house marketing team so we have the ability to track up to 10 campaigns but only need to track a single website. I like the idea of having the different campaigns for different product categories, but I don't want to make things overly complex either. Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should.

  • Was hoping someone could advise why Moz is unable to crawl my site at https://www.oceaniacruises.com **Moz was unable to crawl your site on Oct 5, 2017. **Our crawler was banned by a page on your site, either through your robots.txt, the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header, or the meta robots tag. Update these tags to allow your page and the rest of your site to be crawled. If this error is found on any page on your site, it prevents our crawler (and some search engines) from crawling the rest of your site. Typically errors like this should be investigated and fixed by the site webmaster. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • I use Cloudflare, so I can't avoid the Crawl Error for "Pages with no Meta Noindex" because of the way Cloudflare protects email addresses from harvesting (it creates a new page that has no meta noindex values). I marked this issue as "ignore" because there's nothing I can do about it, and it doesn't really affect my site's performance from an SEO standpoint. But even marked as ignore, it is still included in my site crawl issues count. Of course, I want to see that issues count drop to zero, but that can't happen if the ignored issues are counted. I don't want mark it fixed, because technically it's not fixed. KwPld

  • A client is getting many false positive site crawl errors for things like duplicate titles and duplicate content on pages that include /tag/ in the URL. An example is https://needquest.com/place_tag/autism-spectrum-disorder/page/4/ To resolve this we have set up a disallow statement in the robots.txt file that says
Disallow: /page/ For some reason this appears not to work, as the site crawl errors continue to list pages like this. Does anyone understand why that would be and what we need to do to properly disallow crawling these pages?
