Hreflang or not, or something else?
-
I'm working on a site that has 10 languages served from centrally located core files in Magento. So each language has its own TLD with localised content served from SQL. GWT has also had the preferred country set for each domain.
The problem is that each and every domain is indexed in each of the local Google indexes. In DE Google the FR homepage is ranking higher for the brand keyword. I kind of think I am wasting my time with hreflang but would like some advice whether this is an option or clues how I can handle this situation best.

Are you using the hreflang correctly? it contains both the language and location. If, for example, you french version is being served with the hreflang="fr" that means that users with a French browser should see that page, but not that users in France should see that page.
If you are running an German browser, searching in France, you will probably get the German version first, as the hreflang="de" it's doing it's job. If you'd like to have the french version even for German browsers, you will probably need to add an hreflang="de-FR" and point to the french version.
Even adding all the hreflang tags you may need, Google will ultimately serve what they think is better to the user. There's no way to "force" them, hreflang is just a "guidance"

I think you should add hreflang - you should do everything you can to indicate what country your content is targeted to. Do you have local addresses/phone numbers/currency on each website? These are all signals that can help.
How long has each domain been geotargeted in GWT? Are the sites all the same age? Do they have links from the relevant countries? Maybe Google is taking some time to catch up, or maybe there are reasons why it thinks the FR homepage is more relevant in Germany.

Using hreflang="en" instead of hreflang="en-gb"
Hello, I have a question in regard to international SEO and the hreflang meta tag. We are currently a B2B business in the UK. Our major market is England with some exceptions of sales internationally. We are wanting to increase our ranking into other english speaking countries and regions such as Ireland and the Channel Islands. My research has found regional google search engines for Ireland (google.ie), Jersey (google.je) and Guernsey (google.gg). Now, all the regions have English as one their main language and here is my questions. Because I use hreflang=“en-gb” as my site language, am I regional excluding these countries and islands? If I used hreflang=“en” would it include these english speaking regions and possible increase the ranking on these the regional search engines? Thank you,

Hreflang for Canadian web visitors (when their browsers are set to en-us)
We're in the process of implementing hreflang markup for Canadian & US versions of a website. We've found that about half of our Canadian traffic has browsers that are set to en-us (instead of en-ca, as would be expected). Should we be concerned that Canadians with en-us browser settings will be shown the US versions of the website (as the hreflang would markup 'en-us' for the US version of the page). Our immediate thoughts are that since they're likely to be searching from Google.ca and would also have Canadian IP addresses, that this won't be an issue. Does anyone have any other thoughts here?

Something is killing my rankings
Hello, I'm in the process of re-doing the following two domains: www.musillawfirm.com and www.melbourneduilawfirm.com because something absolutely plummeted my rankings. Any specific thoughts on why the sited could have gone from top 10 to being virtually deleted? Thank you in advance.

What reports should I run, what else can i improve?
Hi, I ran a full Ranking analysis report for "empresa diseño web" for Google Mexico. From what I could see, my site has better metrics in most items than many of the top 10 sites for those keywords. What other reports should I run in order to gain some insights on how to improve on my site and improve my position? Thanks and regards, Rosario

No results for Yahoo. Can someone fill me in on something I am missing?
I have been working on a website for a little more than 2 weeks. I have seen improvements for several of my keywords in both Google and Bing SERPs (first page in Bing and working on it in Google) but have seen no improvements with Yahoo (No keywords are appearing in the top 50 results.) Am I missing something with Yahoo? I have performed onpage optimization so that titles, meta descriptions, bolded text, header tags, alt tags, anchor text, etc is all there. I have also built offpage links using blogs, other people's websites, a few directories (submitted but not displayed), social media, etc. I have never experienced this kind of issue before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
